    Matrox MXO2 mini playback problem

Using MC 5.0.2 with the Matrox MXO2 mini on a 17" MBP. The MXO2 seems really nice except for one problem: whenever I hit stop, the video freezes on the correct frame for a fraction of a second, before jumping ahead a few frames. This is very annoying as it makes it impossible to hit the correct frame.

I have seen similar behaviour with the Mojo SDI, but only on the client monitor, and never in the source/record monitors. With the MXO2 mini it happens in all monitors (at least they are in sync!) If I switch off external monitoring (with the Client Monitor toggle), the problem goes away.

Is anyone seeing the same behaviour? Are there any workarounds?

I'm seeing it too.  I don't see the problem when using a Mojo DX, if you can call that a workaround.

Must think of something clever to go here...

try using desktop play delay for some frames. i know, it's a different setting for firewiredevices only but i remember that i played with that and it became better. you can even turn it back to zero after the bug goes away, i think.

Thanks, I will try your suggestion as soon as I am back on the Avid.

EDIT: Tried it, doesn't help Sad

Re: Matrox MXO2 mini playback problem

I used the Matrox MXO2 Mini, today and had the same problem.

When you hit stop, the picture/blue position bar jumps 1-2 frames ahead.

I also don't see the full quality picture when I pause. Looks like only one field.

Mojo SDI and FSP works better, is it a known issue? Did you find a solution?

I'm using it in a 25p PAL project on CRT monitor (s-video), now.

It works good with FCP so I guess it should be a driver/setting problem, not the hardware itself.

The coordination between my eyes, brain and fingers have never been enough good to be able to do this in a 25th part of a second, I usually step one frame at the time or use slowmo when getting close to the desired frame, are you saying that it jumps one or two frames after that you have removed your finger from the key?

No solution yet I'm afraid, but I posted about the problem in the Matrox support forums. They promised to look into it so hopefully we'll see a fix in a future version of the drivers.

BTW, are you seeing the same behaviour in FCP?

Re: Matrox MXO2 mini playback problem

You don't need good coordination for that. You will definitely see/feel it, when you hit pause it stops for a short amount of time, than it jumps ahead, maybe 2 frames, maybe one. it's not only the one or two frames, it just don't feel accurate you always have a small delay that don't feel good when you want to find the right place to edit.

Yes, it works very accurate in FCP so I hope a new driver will be the solution.

Do you also recognize the poor image quality on parked frames?

For me it looks like one field only and the Matrox setting for scrub & pause makes no difference.

I have not noticed this, but then again I have only used my Matrox for offline editing of DV PAL material.

I have asked for an update on the Matrox forum, let's see what they say.

Re: Matrox MXO2 mini playback problem

I worked with FCP / Matrox, today.

It immediately stops at the right frame and the parked frame looks great but you have a delay when you start playing, especially backwards and forward, again. Overal it feels a bit slow and sluggish. But it was ProRes HQ HD on MacBook Pro, could be also the performance...

I think, my old Mojo SDI with Firewire (PAL only) stills works best for me and Fullscreen Playback without client monitor.

But Matrox works direct with Expresscard, so it should be much faster, I hope new drivers will help.

No news on a solution for this problem ? Still present in 5.51 with the latest Matrox drivers.
