    ronn:

I'm with you belga. Stick out tongue

    Same here.

I was considering starting a thread:

MC5 USEABLE!! Not Crashing Enough! There is a bug in MC. When I use Script View I cannot get the crashes that seem to be standard for other users. This is a serious flaw in MC. Please Avid fix this bug so I can also have crashes.

But, of course, I am not going to do that.
In fact I am not even going to mention it here. Geeked

    I will just follow in Ronn and Belga's footsteps . . . . . .  (exit stage right)

    Regards,
    Douglas

PS. The above post is maybe not intended to be taken seriously. It is maybe just me practicing my british sense of irony.

    Re: MC5 UNUSABLE!! constantly crashing!

I've asked this before without response. How does one replicate the crash that EditorOfChoice so readily reproduces - I'm curious.

EditorOfChoice - please post a 10 step to reproduce and I'll give it a try to see if I can get the crash to happen.

    Cheers

    Re: MC5 UNUSABLE!! constantly crashing!

BarkinMadd, you asked for a "Ten step" on how to crash your system... Here's my how-to"

Open an project, load a timeline the usual way.... then open a bin, switch the bin into "Script" view (right-most tab in a bin).  In "Script" view, use the scroll button on your mouse to scroll down to a clip you might use in your edit. Make sure your bin is populated enough that you need to navigate up / down in the bin.   Double-click the choosen clip to load into the source monitor.  Doodle some action on the clip (play, rewind, mark in, etc...) Then, open another bin, switch to "script" view.... using the scroll button on the mouse, scroll up / down to another clip, double-click on a clip, edit into timeline.. etc.

After three of these scroll-to-a-clip using mouse scroll button in "Script" mode, both my Dell 670 (approved config, see specs) and the HP8600 (Win7/FX3700 approved config) I am currently using  to cut a documentary at a broadcaster, all crash.

Avoiding scrolling with the mouse scroll button, is the ticket.  I've been using the slider to navigate up / down in the bins and I have not had any problem, even though the bin is in "Script" mode.  I've also changed the default background, in all the bins, to a nice soothing shade of yellow... Thanks to Larry R. 's  excellent suggestion.

Please, let us know how your PC Avid fares with the mouse scroll while in "Script" mode.

    Kindly

    Michel

No crashes here, after following your guide exactly on 4 different setups.

ADDED a few minutes later: I should say that there is no crash on my 4 set-ups.
I am not disputiung that other are having and are able to re-create the crashes on their setups.

I just want it to be made clear that there seem to be some differences in the way the Script View is working (or not working) with MC. . . . .  probably something different in the hardware or other software.... or even in how each user has configured his/her Settings in MC.

    Re: MC5 UNUSABLE!! constantly crashing!

    Hi,

if some can reproduce, and some can't, all on the same Software with patches applied to, and all running "supported systems", it could be that some systems are not really that supported. I mean, hardware is propably the same, but what about drivers, especially nvidia and also quicktime. I can not remember seeing any post with complete and detailed system information like drivers and other installed software. There are tons of dlls out there where just a single one that failed could crash the app.

Instead we only read less productive posts.

Why don't just anybody experiencing the error write down any single driver incl. exact version installed, Version of windows and SP, used mice plus driver, also if available anti-virus software, and all the other apps like PS, AFX, C5D and so on.

That would be much more efficient, otherwise it could be more than difficult for anybody else without that issue to replicate that "bug".

    cheers

I have 4 systems,  two brand new z400 6 core's, and xw8600 and xw8400. All running Windows 7. All Avid approved configurations. All crash when scrolling during script view.

The xw8600, xw8400 were both on Windows XP a few months ago, at the that time both would crash when scrolling during script view.

I also had an xw8200 on Windows Xp, also crashed the same way.

I've tried different user settings and different resolutions for clips in my bins, nothing has helped.

I've basically had to train myself not to use the scroll wheel when looking through bins in script view.

To say something about the drivers:

Every Avid user should use the drivers that are provided by Avid within the Avid folder. These are the recommended NVidia drivers that you should use. That is exactly what I'm doing.

    Quciktime:

There are also recommendations from Avid for the Quicktime version. I use always exactly the versions that Avid recommends. I switch off all auto updates in Windows and Quicktime as well.

So drivers and Quicktime shouldn't be the point in that case.

    Re: MC5 UNUSABLE!! constantly crashing!

You might wonder what one could find out if you would post your exact driver versions that are installed. What other Software is installed additionally?

Just saying "all avid approved config" or "I use always exactly..." is neither satisfying nor sufficient. So the answers you gave are really not enough to help recreating the issue...
