A stand alone capture app, which will allow users with fast enough CPU's to encode to installed codec's on thier system, and use AMA to bring the file into Avid Media Composer

and if you wonder how fast system that is needed, I can tell that my little MBP does this brilliant even with DNxHD 185X captured to a usb drive, no dropped frames at all, something really worth to wait for for all of you

    what i am missing?

You aren´t missing anything Daniel, you can do all that described capturing, but not with Media Composer, you have to use the apps brought with the unit or another capturing app to be able to capture

One feature would be the device's ability to upscale/downscale projects to fit the specifications of the monitor you are monitoring with.

I could be working on a 1080 project and view it on my consumer brand composite monitor. I just set my output to display SD letterbox and voila! Instant downscale.

This feature is great when an editor needs to do work on location and can't carry around a big HD screen along. Plus, with the MXo2 menu, I can change my component out to do composite and S-video (or output SD through component) while still keeping full res on HDMI.

I'm using the Matrox MXO2 Mini with MC 5.0.3.1 and have a playback problem:

When you hit stop, the picture/blue position bar jumps 1-2 frames ahead.

I also don't see the full quality picture when I pause. Looks like only one field.

Mojo SDI and FSP works better, is it a known issue?

I'm using it in a 25p PAL project on CRT monitor (s-video), now.

It works good with FCP so I guess it should be a driver/setting problem, not the hardware itself.

    Hello,

The snap ahead at stop is a known limitation of the Avid software.

Never seen that on old Meridien, Adrenaline, Cujo/Mojo SDI and Classic/DX Nitris hardware, not to mention software only; perhaps You mean that's a known limitation of MC on MXO2?

    Hi Luca,

On Adrenaline, users have experienced a snap back in the past. For the others, I'm not 100% sure, but I do know that with the Mini this is aknown limitation of the Avid software, and not the hardware itself.

I'm not convinced either that this is in the Avid software. Adrenalines had snap back, but I'm fairly sure that the FW pipe was to blame for that.

But even more so, I did not experience that issue at all over the past two weeks, working on an MBP with MXO2 Mini, but I must admit that I was in 23.976p/1080, output set to 29i/1080, with an HDTV as monitor, connected via analog component.

Re: MXO2 mini 23.976 PSF Warning!!!!

To be honest, there's been an annoying MC version with inaccurate stop, but that was fixed pretty soon, or perhaps the increasing hardware power took care of that, so, all in all, I would not say that snap back, or forward, is an Avid pecularity.

any good news concerning 24p playback with the matrox mxo2 mini?

just sold my SDI compatible client monitor and the next feature film is starting in january ...

    Hi Sven,

True 1080p 24 (not to be consued with 23.98 which is already supported today) has made it into our 2.1 release for the Mac. However, I am still working with Avid to bring support to Media Composer 5. So it is there, but Avid will need to support it before you can use the new frame rates, and true P output of your mini's on the Mac

    What's new in 2.1

True 1080p 24 and 30 (not to be confused with 29.97 which is already supported today)

The ability to select the HDMI output to be PsF or P for 1080p (requires support from Avid)

A stand alone capture app, which will allow users with fast enough CPU's to encode to installed codec's on thier system, and use AMA to bring the file into Avid Media Composer

and there is more new features to be provided in the 2.1 Mac release from Matrox

    Thanks

    W@

    thanks for your feedback wayne
i really appreciate that you take care of our needs. looking forward 2.1 ...

    Keep it up!

Never mind who is to blame; is anyone at Avid or Matrox actually working to resolve this issue? I would love to equip all my Avids with Matrox boxes, but I won't do so until this issue is solved.

yes, an absolutely total disaster, there are a solution however

    Mojo DX

If that isn´t good enough, there are of course other alternatives

    Nitris

It´s all about the pricetag of course ..

Still a pity that 24p PAL is overlooked. Not for the first time.
