Hi All,
I'm in the process of transcoding R3D stereoscopic material in MetaFuze for offline in MC.
However, one of the two images, the right eye, is flipped (mirrored). This might be perfectly normal and exactly as it should be, but it does raise my eyebrows a bit.. The transcoded over/under image that I see in MC thus consists of an upper image of the left eye and a lower image of the right eye (mirrored).
I do not (yet) have a 3D monitor to check the results, so basically my question is: Is this correct?
Any info is greatly appreciated.
I did some research and found out that using a beamsplitter on set wil cause one of the eyes to be flipped. This is a very common practice in 3D shooting. So here's a feature request:
When you first create a stereoscopic group and then a transcode in MetaFuze, you should have an option in the transcode settings to flip the left or right eye during transcoding. This doesn't seem too difficult to me, and saves a lot of time and money (a roundtrip to a postfacility that will flip the eye for me).
Is this something that is already being looked into? And if so, is there a beta-version available? (I'm in somewhat of a hurry.. ;-)
Any MetaFuze developer care to chime in here?
Yes, we are aware of the mirror rigs and their impact on the image - it could be a flip or a flop dependng on setup. There can also be exposure differences as well as other abberations if the mirror is not perfectly aligned to the lens on either eye. This gets you into a whole world of stereo 3D corrective tools which can get complex quickly.
As with all features, these are on the list and part of a greater priority and engineering resources.

Michael,
Thanks for your reply. I guess for now that means a sidetrip to a posthouse for me.

Does that mean that a next MetaFuze release might have more 3D options?
MetaFuze has its own backlog (feature list) consisting of many things in the stereo 3D space as well as formats, color space, and other... Depending on resources, amount of time needed to do a feature, etc. will impact what we see in the application and when.
Hi,
Any progress on working with mirrored stereo material? The creative director wants to watch through all the 3D to pick his best shots for edit but i'm not sure what to do to make it work in MC. As a back up i'm currently capturing all the left and right eye into DS while we have the space, but the compositor will be back in Monday so it's only a short term fix... do i have to flop all the left eyes in DS to export them for the MC to then go through metafuze?
Thanks in advance!
Charlene
