DVD Problem Xpress Pro Studio HD

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but haven't posted in a while and it appears Xpress Pro forum is now archived? I believe this issue may not be specific to that software though.

Having a weird problem exporting/creating a DVD. I'm exporting the timeline
sequence as a QT reference file, then compressing to mpeg2 in sorenson squeeze
    and burning in Avid DVD.

The issue is that the footage on the DVD appears to have jaggy edges and not
    quite the resolution I'd expect.

I've spent quite a bit of time on this myself trying different export settings
in the Avid (including an uncompressed export test) and also different settings
in Sorenson Squeeze. None seem to solve the issue.

On the QT ref. file, the titles at the start (which were imported as a
progressive sequence) look fine, the live footage looks interlaced - but this
may be normal when playing back through QT player?

Is there anything obvious I might have overlooked that could be causing this?

My only suspicion is that the first footage I had was shot 25p (this is on DV), so
I set up a 25p (DV 25 420) project. It seems now as if some/all of the cameras
on subsequent tapes were 25i. The titles/ident graphics, etc. were progressive.
Could this mixing of 25p/i footage in a progressive project have an effect such
    as this?

Original settings (as I recall them away from the Avid) were:

    Export:
    QT reference
    Same as source
    Video and Audio
    Color levels RGB
    720 x 576 size to fit
Field order options are greyed out since it's a 25p project
Pixel aspect ratio same as source (non-square)

    Sorenson Squeeze:
    Mpeg-2
    DVD PAL Large preset used
    No other filters, etc. applied

    Other info:

    Avid Xpress Pro 5.1.3

    QT 6.5.2

Any ideas welcome as I have a client waiting. I've made them aware, but they
still need a quality DVD asap.

    TIA
    James

Guessing here - Sorenson does not deinterlace your footage because it believes it's progressive so any interlace footage burried in your sequence is never deinterlaced (Avid doesn't deinterlace it). Take a sample of your 25i footage and deinterlace it (perhaps with Sorenson) and then inject it back into your original timeline and see if that corrects the problem.

Also, view your results on an external DVD / TV system, not QT player, just to make sure the problem you're seeing isn't a QT player problem...

Re: DVD Problem Xpress Pro Studio HD

Whenever I make a DVD, before expoerting from Avid I always do a video mixdown first then I export that.  In Sorenson I always add a filter to remove the deinterlace before compressing.  Trying one or both of these may help.
