Avid Codecs not working with Adobe Media Encoder

Files exporting from MCA Nitris using an Avid codec (Avid DV, DNxHD) show only black video when opened in Adobe Media Encoder.  They work fine with Sorensen.  Is anyone sucessfully using Adobe ME with AVID codecs?

Hi Thierry, I used sometime AME whith MC 3.0 generated Qick time ref without any problem. Check your Quick Time version maybe there is some conflict, the aproved for CS4 is 7.4.5, the same of MC 3.0 but different of the earlier MC versions.

    Are you on CS3 or CS4 ?

CS3 works very well using this workflow.

CS4 and DNxHD don't seem to play well together.

I have had mixed results with CS4 from DNxHD Using AME inside Encore no good results. Stand alone better. There was a patch for AME within the last 3 or 4 weeks I have installed it but not tested it yet.

Do you have the latest DNxHD codecs installed on the CPU you are using with CS4?

My experience is with the codecs with 3.1.2 but I think 3.5.1 uses a newer codec pac.

Yes, 3,51 is using codec version 1,20 I think.

I am using CS3 and it all works well as said, my way to it is through Soundbooth.

FWIW  AME had no trouble with a 70 minute PAL  DNxHD 120 QT Ref to Blu Ray MPEG encode here that I tested overnight.

I choose to use Sorenson for actual the job as it did a 2 pass VBR in just over half the time AME wanted to take for a single pass VBR encode.  Two hours forty six mins for a two pass encode of 70 minutes is reasonably impressive to someone like me who is not fond of Sorenson

is that using MCA 3.5.1 and AME CS4?  I tried using AVID codecs on both of my MCA systems and AME does not see the video.

Ok, so that is probably the issue.  On top of this, I am also having a field rendering issue when compressing for MPEG-2 DVD in Sorensen.  Basically, regardless of my field interpolation setting in Sorensen (upper, lower or even progressive), the resulting DVD plays jittery on CRT displays.  That it when downconverting my HD timeline (XDCAM HD 1080 60i) using AVID's DV codec, lower field.  If I use the "DV Stream" export, everything looks good except for the brightness/contrast levels that I need to tweek using the "darken" filter in Sorensen.

I am really looking in the near future for an idiot proof feature to export MPEG-2 files for DVD or Blu-Ray output straight out of the AVID timeline.  That process is still way too complicated.

I have used the media encoder from CS3 for this for a couple of years, seems like an update to CS4 not is going to happen for a long time and my workflow is really working well, just a few glitches during the years that have been user related, one of them was with animated buttons on a dvd disc that played very choppy from the clients player, my dvd file was 2 pass encoded 6,5 - 7,2 and I just couldn´t understand why the clients player had problem with that file but the the probs was only when playing the menu so it didn´t seem to be the file.

What I hadn´t thought about was that Sonic Dvd is encoding the animated buttons itself and that the default settings was set to 8 mbps, lowering those to 7 mbps made even the menu to play beatifully on the clients old dvd player.
