Re: MC 3.5 audio scrub bug

Is this or isn't this a REAL bug?  I can't believe this is still kicking around.  If it's real then why hasn't it been fixed?  This doesn't seem minor to me, at all.  I don't have 3.5 installed but the very notion of this boggles the mind.

Re: MC 3.5 audio scrub bug

Funny enough, I haven't used digital scrub since upgrading to 3.5.1 - it's useless as it is now. Has anyone read through the readme for 3.5.1 to see if this is a known problem? Doesn't seem like the sort of thing Avid would let slip by...

Re: MC 3.5 audio scrub bug

FWIW: Audio scrub works beautifully on my fully uncertified computer(s) running MC 3.5.1 with or without Mojo in both PAL HD/SD projects as it has always done with increasingly better performance since 2.8; it's how computers work: You get different results with different hardware/software combinations. For this to be officially a bug it has to be reproduced by many users, while regarding bug fixes and release dates that would be speculation I guess, and it's not allowed in this forum.

Re: MC 3.5 audio scrub bug

We are talking about DIGITAL Audio Scrub i.e. using Caps Lock and either scrubbing with the mouse or using the left & right arrow keys to hear the sound.

In my work I get to use lots of different systems. Every system I have used running 3.5.1 shows the problem. Going back to 3.1.x cures the problem.

The following systems have shown the problem so far:- HP fully certified systems, Apple fully certified systems and various systems using: Soundblaster X-Fi PCI, Digidesign M-box2, Digidesign 002, Mojo SDI, Nitris DX and Adrenaline.

This is such a broad range of hardware that I think it qualifies as an official bug. BLKDOG thinks it is too and says Avid is working on it but it has been months and still no fix.

Incidentally the worst affected systems seem to be the ones with Avid hardware as my workaround listed earlier in this thread does not work with that.

To test your system, try the following: Switch on CAPS LOCK, park your play-head in the middle of some footage with 1 video track, 2 audio tracks and no unrendered stuff. Then hold down the Right Arrow key (assuming it's still mapped to frame advance). If the result is almost like playing it normally at 25/30 frames per second - COOL you are unaffected. If you only get about 1-2 frame updates per second then you have the bug!!

Re: MC 3.5 audio scrub bug

Le Maitre, I've read and understood the all thread, I have to confirm that this is not happening on my computers; as a freelance editor I happen to work on different systems too and have never had this problem, and I use to work with CapsLock on all the time, but maybe I have just been lucky; as stated before: one gets different results with different HW/SW combinations. I know this is not very helpful but still I hope this helps.

luca.mg I'm intrigued. What soundcard are you using? This problem is the most common support call we get and we have no way to help people.

Luca it' great that your unqualified home made system works perfectly but from what I understand this bug has been widely reported on Avid qualified systems. I don't ask for speculation, I want to know for real if it is being addressed and when that will happen, speculation is pointless.

Although I'm happy for you it is pointless that you tell me your system works, should we all copy your configuration and build systems like yours and ditch out qualified systems, have you tested it with all Avid periferals? Maybe Avid should try evey permutaion of hardware at our expense and release the biggest qualified list of hardware combinations known to man?

Re: MC 3.5 audio scrub bug

Hi all, maybe someone from Avid can confirm this has been filed as a bug and it's being taken care of, I'm not telling this is not a bug, what I'm trying to say is that it may be caused by a software conflict, like it was the DAE not working for some users on MC 3.0; see the thread on MC and IE8. I'm not in front of my system right now and I don't remember which audio chip it has, but I choose my motherboard because it is fitted with the same audio subsystem as found in the HP xw8200.

Re: MC 3.5 audio scrub bug

After a long wait MC3.5.4 is now available. I thought after such a long time a bug like this would have been fixed. Alas not. It still seems to be there. Has anyone else seen a change in Digital Audio Scrub performance after upgrading to 3.5.4?

How do you report a bug to Avid anyway? Is it possible they don't know about this? Maybe they don't think audio scrubbing is an important bug to fix. Also I notice that no one from Avid participates in a thread about bugs.

Yes, as described in my previous post, this seems to be a prob even with 3,54, tested on both an XP SP3 and a V64 sys.

Re: MC 3.5 audio scrub bug

I do have the exact same "scrubbing" problems mentioned above. I have MC 3.5.4 on an AVID qualified

Dell laptop workstation. ( everything was fine when I had older versions of NEWSCUTTER in my PC ).

It's not possible that Avid is still not aware of this issue... This is just one...  among thousands of bugs

      they have to fix...

The read me file with release of 3.5.4 it identifies the audio scrub bug, I am supprised to hear that it is not actually fixed!

I waiting for an opportunity to install 3,5,4 at the moment but once I have I will let the group know if it has any effect.

Did everyone follow the correct procedure ie uninstalling the digidesign drivers manually ect?
