    Export 16:9 to DSR-11 Deck

    Hi Guys,

I shot something in 16:9, letterboxed it in timeline as 16:9; but when I tried to create a master DV tape into my Sony DSR-11 Deck, it comes in as 4:3. What settings do I need to adjust to create the 16:9 onto my tape?

    Thanks.

If you want it to go down in a letterbox, you need to apply the 16 x 9 reformat effect to your timeline before outputting.

I've done that. I reformated it on the timeline to 16:9. It looks like 16:9 in my monitor. But I sent the DV out to a client and they say it's in 4:3 letterboxed version.

That is correct. That's what it would be. If you want it to be native 16 x 9 for DVD, you need to output it as 4 x 3 anamorphic and apply the 16 x 9 flag in the DVD authoring software.

Re: Export 16:9 to DSR-11 Deck

Thanks for that. Maybe this is where I'm missing it. But I seem to be bypassing the DVD authoring software and simply playing my movie in the timeline and recording into my DSR-11. How do I configure my output there?

Well, when are you going to DVD? From the tape? Tell us about how you are getting to DVD.

Sorry, you said DV, not DVD. So tell us about how your client is playing it back...Do they want to use true 16x9 or do they want it leterboxed?

Ok, in that case and for SD, you would simply output as 4 x 3 Anamorphic and they will have to adjust the display ratio to FULL on their Monitor/TV.
