Engineering has logged a high priority bug against this issue. However, because this doesn't happen to very many users, we need as much info as possible from those of you seeing the problem.
1. If your system specs are not listed in your profile, please list them especially the OS and Service pack versions. What Video card and drivers?
2. What project types are you using?
3. What resolution?
4. What external peripherals do you have attached?
Anything else you can think of that may contribute to the problem.
In agreement, Unity. In Disagreement, Discussion. In all things, Charity.
Same problem. The JKL keys need around 0.5 sec for response. My system ist on Vista64 biz and a certified XW8600.
I went back to 3.05
I'm having the same problim I went back to 3.05
certified XW8000
Guys, "Certified" doesn't help us. We need to know exactly what you have, especially your video card and driver versions along with the project type and resolutions.
If too many seeing the same problem have the same nvidia driver, then you have shorten this out.
Usually sluggishness in timeline is due to bad vga drivers or installation.
I can't believe that Avid brought out a new version with such a problem.

Did anyone here upgrade to 3.1 without first doing a complete uninstall of 3.0.5?
Upgraded one room from 3.0.5 to 3.1. Everything fine.
Upgrdaded another room (from 2.8 to 3.1) and system slowed so much its unusable.
Problem room - HP XW8200 4gb ram Win XP NVIDIA Quadro FX 1400. Don't know the driver or where to find it.
Project was 1080 59.94 DNXhd 145.
I noticed a slight performance slow down (.5 sec) but really hit a snage when installed Boris 5.0 (previously 3.0). After uninstalling Boris app returns to almost normal. Boris upgrade didn't help solve the problem.
Our functioning room is identical except its a XW8400
I did not uninstall in our room that is functioning well with 3.1
Driver in the bad room w/quadro 1400 is 8.4.2.6
Thanks Red. Good info. It should help
3.1 on my system is almost completely unresponsive. 1/2 second or more hesitation to do so much as click an item in the bin, huge delay on playback.
System Specs:
Dell Precision 490 Dual 3.2GHz Dual Core Processors (Hyper Threading disabled)
4GB RAM w/3GB switch
nVidia Quadro FX3450 driver 169.47 (nVidia driver supplied by Avid)
2 x 500GB SATA in RAID 0
Media Composer 3.1
Quicktime Pro 7.4.5
XP Pro Service Pack 3
Project Types:
All SD projects, 30i.
Resolutions used:
1:1, 1:1 10b, DV50, DV25, some 2:1.
External Peripherals:
Avid Mojo on system firewire. Nothing else attached to the system except the dongle.
Completely uninstalled Media Composer 3.0.5, restarted system, installed 3.1 and the problems started. Rolling back to 3.0.5 right now. Will edit this post if responsiveness returns after rollback.
If you need anymore info on my system specs, etc... just let me know.
Michael.
EDIT: When I first installed 3.1, I uninstalled 3.0.5 then installed everything (Metasync, MediaLog, FilmScribe, Media Composer, etc...) by selecting the option to "Install Avid Editor Suite". Restarted the system and my post above happened--unresponsive, slow, etc... Uninstalled 3.1 and reinstalled 3.0.5. Everything ran smooth again. Now installing only Media Composer 3.1 via the "Install Invidividual Products" option, but this time without uninstalling 3.0.5. Will report back in a minute on whether it's any better.
EDIT 2: That didn't work. Letting the installer uninstall 3.0.5 didn't do anything. 3.1 is still sluggish on my system. Uninstalling nVidia drivers now, will reinstall to see if that does anything. If it doesn't, going back to 3.0.5 until the problem is found and resolved on Avid's end.
EDIT 3: No luck. Still slow as molasses. I opened an effects heavy sequence and it took forever to redraw the effect icons and sample plots. Unbelievable how slow it was. Rolling back to 3.0.5 until there's a fix.
Hi
I have just installed 3.1 over 3.0.5. I didn't do a manual uninstall of 3.0.5 but I am almost sure the 3.1 installer prompted that he needs to remove previous version first.
Everything is working fine over here.
My bad 3.1 system had problems at 30i and 720p/23.976 (didn't try others). I use USB external drives for media. Running NVIDIA Quadro FX 1100, driver version 8.4.2.6 on Windows XP Pro SP2. Have not tried it on the laptop.
I have definitely experienced slow performance throughout the interface. Even the simplest things like timecode display freezing randomly while playing and capturing footage has never been an issue with my system until I installed MC 3.1. I can confirm almost all the complaints listed in previous posts. View "my complete system specs" for complete configuration.
On a positive note, I'm very happy to have the latest version of QuickTime qualified. For years we've used iTunes to manage our music library - spanning more than 35,000 cuts of licensed music. But since we switched to Vista Biz x64, we haven't been able to use iTunes becuase it could only be installed with QT 7.5.x which was not qualified until now. The x64 version of iTunes for Windows Vista x64 once again allows us to drag and drop music cues from the iTunes Library directly into a Composer Bin - it's a great feature and very fast!
I did not uninstall. The installer said it was doing the uninstall and seemed to do it. I don't remember seeing instructions to do a complete uninstall but maybe I didn't look close enough.
My system specs are up to date.
After going back to 3.0, I've noticed 3.05 is not as responsive as 3.0. I thought I was crazy at the time but now that I've gone back, 3.0 was faster.

At least two of the users have the same driver 8.4.2.6.
