Someone with Avid on Vista...A Quick Question

I'm running Media Composer in XP and I'm a ton of touble using dual monitor.  I have a big widescreen paired with a small 4:3 monitor and the resolution difference makes it impossible for me to run the avid 'window' over the two screens.

I also use Avid on my mac and I like the ability to drag my bins to the 2nd display, since there isn't a master 'window' which contains all the others.

My question is...Can I do this with MC in Vista?  I.e. Do all the program's elements have to fall within the one main 'window' or is this just a limitation in XP?

If you set both your monitors to the same resolution  then you can run a dual screen set up quite nicely.

I have done this (1280x1024 for both resolutions) - for 4:3 editing (SD) you need to put your source and record viewers in the 4.3 screen to avoid the fat flat look of the 16:9 aspect ratio monitor, but it gives you plenty room for bin placement in the 22" monitor.

MisterDerp - Unfortunately, it appears that all subwindows of MC must exist within the main window of MC and hence you won't be able to accomplish what you were hoping for even under Vista.

Avid could learn a thing or two from Adobe in this regard.

    MC 2020.8 | QT 7.7.9 | Continuum 2020.5 | Sapphire 2020.5 | Mocha Pro 2020.5 | Titler Pro 7.3 | Windows 10 Pro x64 (2004) | System: Asus x299, i9-7940X... [view my complete system specs]

    Ah....That's too bad.

Guess I'll just have to get a bigger 2nd monitor at some point. (Can't set them to the same resolution...one is 1280x1024 and the other is 1920x1200.  Doesn't quite match up and the windows go all screwy)

    Thanks tho

As a side note: windows management is much better on the Mac.

In the long run, it's best to have two matching displays.  I recently got 2 x HP L2245w (22") for $225 each.

    Symphony 8.8.x w/Avid Nitris DX, HP z420, Windows 10, QT v7.7.x, Hexa Core 3.2GHz, 16GB RAM, nVidia Quadro Series 2000 w/353.82. 2TB Boot, 2 x 3TB internal... [view my complete system specs]

Re: Someone with Avid on Vista...A Quick Question

Yeah, I guess that's the best option...but my primary is a 27" behemoth and really don't want two of those on my desk!

If I get a 24" WS for the 1920x1200 resolution it'll seem like such a waste.  Maybe a cheaper 20" 4:3 at 1600x1200 is going to be my best option.

    Thanks for the help!
