    DVD creation causes jittery picture

I've exported my timeline to Sorenson for encoding using DVD. After I encode it, some of my action sequences play jittery and not smooth as they look in MC. What can I do to fix that?

The classic solution is change the field order.

Re: DVD creation causes jittery picture

you might encounter interlacing problems. problems might be:

    - mixed timeline (DV / non-DV footage)
    - export settings. by the way: how do you export your timeline to squeeze?
do you use the quicktime reference files?
    - de-interlace settings in squeeze.
    - field-order settings for the MPEG2 clip

how did you check your video? on a PC or using a stand-alone player? in which format do you produce? NTSC or PAL?

hope we could give you some inputs - but I'm afraid that we can't help you, as long as you give us more details. if it's not an interlacing thing, could you try to post a screenshot of the problem.

Re: DVD creation causes jittery picture

    Here is my setup:

    - All the video is DV footage
    - I exported the timeline using "Send To DVD... to Squeeze" (I think that's what it's called)
    - I used quicktime reference files
    - I set deinterlacing in squeeze
    - field-order settings in MPEG2 were set to Lower Field First

I checked my video by creatind a DVD using Encore and playing it on a stand-alone player.

To reiterate... the action scees with lots of movie look jittery. Also, titles created in MC look jaggedy.

What else can I check or change to improve quality?

Re: DVD creation causes jittery picture

it seems that you face the jittery images when there's a horizontal movement in your clip.so you have a interlace problem.

    - you could skip Squeeze and directly import your QT Ref file to Encore (as long as your version is >1.0)
    - how did you set the deinterlacing in squeeze?
    - there are several options for the quicktime reference files. (use Avid DV Codec, same as source, ....)
try to change on after the other - not all at the same time.

Re: DVD creation causes jittery picture

I will try going directly to Encore using QT Ref. I'm running Encore CS3

I don't remember how I setup deinterlacing in squeeze as I'm not in front of that machine right now. I know for sure I used the Avid DV Codec.

I will experiment with these settings tonight and report back.

Re: DVD creation causes jittery picture

Hopefully you have more luck than I - I tried using QT Ref with Encore CS4 - no go. Looks like both Encore and Premiere don't like QT Ref files (no problem with AE CS4, though)...
