Why do they always do that?

This seems to have solved our settings issue thus far. Trashing the .avs file made all the difference.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!

These boards are invaluable.  Thanks all.  For my part, Avid tech support suggests that I'm struggling w/a memory issue.  Perhaps bad RAM.  They've suggested that I reinstall MC, and that doesn't help, to begin removing RAM modules until the problem is resolved.  Don't look forward to this process, but such is the digital age.  I'll keep you posted. Stay tuned!

I hope you get it sorted out soon Bill. What type of ram do you use?

an 8-gig set from RamJet, and two more that arrived in the machine.  I'm planning on jerking the 2 non-matched sticks and dropping to 8 gig first and see what shakes out.

truth be told, I need some time to see if my other steps have helped (like pulling video media solely from the external RAID instead of firewire drives, internal RAIDS, and all over the place...)

btw, watching the P2 clips load from my zoomy RAID is quite impressive - loads very fast

That's a great feature in Avid's favor, really.  This stuff is more complicateder all the time.

Stand by... am awaiting replacement RAM shipment by WED/THU. Hopefully this will get me back on track. RAM passed my cursory testing, but Avid Tech support suspects the RAM is being pesky.  We'll throw in the new sticks and see how that goes.  Thanks, Avid!

As promised, the new RAM is in, the computer's back up, and I'm testing User settings and such.  So far, no problems.  The app remembers settings for various functions, and shuts down w/o drama.  Thanks to Avid tech support, and this great board.  Now I'm ready to rip!
