Hi,
has anyone tested this setup, I want to monitor HD video on client monitor, With full screen preview i can use one head of my video card to run full screen and the secound will give me workspace. Id like to setup 2 workspace monitors and have a third monitor for client monitor. Could i use 2 Quadro graphics cards one would run the source/program and client monitor. the other would run a monitor for workspace, bins ect....
Also what about those USB grphics cards that extend your display, could i use one of them to expand to a secound monitor just for bins and audio tool?
Thanks
Sam King
I'm running two nVidia cards, one quadro FX1700, on my MC3.05 system. The nVidia card drives my workstation monitor and the other Geforce card runs my HDTV monitor. I like this setup because it allows me to set the resolution of the HDTV without affecting the settings on my monitors. AVID workspace wants to span all 3 monitors, so, I have to manually drag the workspace down to two monitors..

I think Bob Russo had a posting about this a while back. He advised running display 1 on card 1 port 1, display 2 on card 2 port 1 (the cheaper card) and display 3 on card 1 port 2. You then use display 1 for you composer and source displays, display 2 for bins and tools, and display 3 for FSP. That way you get your display quality card handling your video, and your hack card handling mainly text.
And you would still be able to set display resolution independently with that configuration.
What about running 1 vid card (Quadro FX1700) with a Matrox "DualHead2Go" plugged into 1 port and the client monitor in the other port? I am looking at this config:
Port 1 - DualHead2Go splitting to my 2 CRTs giving a workspace of 2560x1024
Port 2 - Client monitor full screen playback
Would be a simpler option and 1 less slot on the Mobo for the PC to worry about? My Avid rep suggested this to me?
Vote 1 - Dongles.

Thanks Luca - must have missed that thread, sounds like it will work well. I like the idea of a single graphics card pulling system recources over the complications 2xGFX may entail.

Bob didn't. Brian Williams did.

Yes indeed, it's the post right after the one I linked.
Yep. That's the reference I meant.
Unfortunately, the dualhead2go is VGA input, DVI output. why would I want to leave the A-D conversion to a box like the Matrox ? Fringing and smearing has been reported with this box.
And gamers, whose performance is critical, go with dual cards all the time. If it was too much of a drain on system resources, they wouldn't use this config.

I wouldn't go for the Matrox solution either. Because rather than a simple A-D process, you're really looking at D-A on your display card, followed by a horizontal pixel stretch and an A-D in the Matrox box. So it's really not surprising that you see smearing and fringing.
