First, turn off the caps lock. In internet terms, it means you are shouting.

Second, capture into a 1080i/59.94 project. See if that works.

    Re: SONY Z7U 1080 PROGRESSIVE M2T IMPORT?

so i tried everything, and this is what i got while importing the m2t files:

1080i / 59.94 - it comes in but its stuttery, like i captured 15fps and the video finishes faster than the audio and i get an error about missing frames

    1080p/24p , 24p, 30p, 1080i/50 : it does not work, the message i get is:

"edit rate of clip does not match project edit rate"

So now I plugged in the camera via firewire, and im trying this route,

HDV does not work at all for some reason.. as progressive mode..

so my last try is standard DV mode.. in 30i.. and that seems to work..

is it some kind of HDV progressive thing that does not work? How does the Sony's V1U cameras do it.. isnt it the same thing? I don't understand why I cant import them.. unless theres another workaround for HDV m2t files from the CF cards of the z7U..

I've helped a couple of other people with the Z7, and in both cases it turned out to be user error. The camera has a lot of settings, and it's very easy to select the wrong one.

So first, you talk about capturing progressive, but then you use the term 1080i which is interlaced, not progressive. Check the In/Out Rec menu on the camera for Scan Type. If it's set for 60, then you're really 1080i, not progressive. The Z7 only support 24 frame and 30 frame progressive modes for HDV.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: SONY Z7U 1080 PROGRESSIVE M2T IMPORT?

Thanks for the input, but unfortunately i wish it was that easy..

It was shot progressive mode, 24p. Im wondering if this camera shoots 1080p. If it does, it does not import anyway.. It was recorded into CF as m2t files, as progressive 24p. If i captured in progressive scan mode, then no problem.. but this is not the case here..

    any other ideas?

What version of MC are you using?

     3.0

    my specs are follows:

intel core 2 duad processor 2.4

    4gb ram

I just tried it on an older version, and same thing.. and another computer as well..

can it be just as plain as avid not supporting progressive 24p on an m2t HDV format?

I tried it here on 3.0, and I got the same thing. I'm wondering if it's looking for 24p in a 30i stream with 2:3 pulldown. In which case it would fail with that error message. I'm still taking a look at that aspect myself.

whatever it is, it does not work,. i dont think its supported so far. it imports, but whats the point of that? lets keep each other updated on this..

also have you ever imported SD video from the CF card with timecode? thats another issue I have.. it does not seem to take in timecode when the CF recorder shows timecode.. weird.. I would need it if i decide to batch capture back as HDV..

I don't have the Z7 myself, but I know someone who does and I'm going to get copies off of his CF so that I'm sure I know what recording settings were used. The stuff I'm finding online is unlcear as to whether or not it's a straight copy from the card. Once I figure out the workflow, I'll post it (if someone else doesn't beat me to it first).

    Re: SONY Z7U 1080 PROGRESSIVE M2T IMPORT?

I've been playing around with the files from the CF, and I'm afraid I've got some bad news. MC 3.0 appears to have no way of importing this file. The file format is 1440x1080 at 23.976P. HDV import is restricted to:

    • 720p/23.976
    • 720p/25
    • 720p/29.976
    • 720p/50
    • 1080i/50
    • 1080i/59.94

MC 3.0's 1080p/23.976 project appears to be only for 1920x1080 material.

I've tried unpacking the m2t file into an mpeg-2, but MC wouldn't import the mpeg-2 either as it's a system stream with both audio and video.

You might be able to import the material by unpacking the m2t file into a m2v file and a pair of wav files, but that's going to be a somewhat tedious workflow I think.

No, one of 3.0's main features is the ability to do both full and thin raster HDV.

Maybe that was the idea, but using that project type one is unable to import an HDV recorded at 23.976P. MC 3.0 complains about mismatched edit frame rates. In which case it's a bug, not a feature!

    Re: SONY Z7U 1080 PROGRESSIVE M2T IMPORT?

Only 1080i/59.94 and 1080p/30 Sony HDV is supported. Take a look at the Sony HDV White Paper published by Avid: http://www.avid.com/resources/whitepapers/index.asp?page=2&marketID=

This is also in the Supported Devices document published by Avid: http://snipurl.com/3s7x8

My only suggestion is to use DVFilm Maker and convert the .m2t file to a DNxHD QuickTime file. DVFilm recommends recording using 1080i/59.94 and allow Maker to convert the video to 23.976.
