QT export from DV project does not have fields

    Here's the problem.

I export a QT reference from my DV 25i project. When I burn a DVD the fields are not separated and it plays bad on both my laptop and TV.

When I open the QT ref in Quicktime Pro and choose single field or de-interlace from the visual settings it makes no difference. It's like the file doesn't know that it has fields and this seems to be causing problems with my DVD burning software.

When I export Same as Source I get the same problem. Only when I export as a DV stream or as a QT with normal PAL-DV codec does the interlace information carry across. This would indicate to me there is a problem with the Avid DV codec.

If so, this is a mojor pain as it prevents me from utilising the QT reference method for making fast DVDs.

Anyone else confirm this and maybe know of a fix?

    Many thanks

Well, the description of the interlacing problem is a little backwards from what we've seen but I think you are talking about the same problem. I think you mean that, during fast motion or pans you can see the interlaced fields..right? Mean the fields ARE separated and not properly interlaced.

What we've found is that the QT ref is outputting a 720 x 486 frame. When this is squashed to 720 x 480 in the DVD encode, you get a problem with field interpolation like you are (I think) describing. The only way to avoid this is to make sure to export using a  DV codec which will output a 720 x 480 frame.

    Hi BLKDOG,

I'm working PAL so I'm not sure it's the same problem.

I just did some tests. In the export dialogue for QT REFERENCE if I deselect USE AVID DV CODEC it's all fine. But how can this be if it's just a reference then surely the codec is fixed.

Sorry, yes. Translate the Frame size to your format of choice.

By any chance do you have anything in your sequence OTHER than DV? Titles or GFX in 1:1?

No. Just doing a test with one clip in sequence in a new project.

I really think it is something to do with the meta data for the resulting file as visually there is no difference. It's just the way it behaves with third party software. Especially Quicktime Pro.
