    HDV in the Symphony Nitris

I'd like to know a solvable workflow for this.  Can I import into AXP native HDV and then transcode to DNxHD - then transfer the media to the symphony?  What is the easiest way to do this???

    Thanks.

I am currently working on a 60 min doc with HDV footage. I am using the Sony Z1U as my play deck and using the Convergent-Design bridge for RS422 control/HDSDI. I am digitizing at DNxHD 145. One of the two stories in the film is digitizing well and is in sync with the offline. The other is way, way out of sync. These two segments were cut in different places. While I don't have the sync issues figured out, I suspect it is an offline configuration issue.

You have this excatly right, Lance.

The great thing about this workflow is that you can throw computers (Xpress Pro Computers, specifically) at a problem when you need to.

How does the Convergent Design bridge work for you?  I'm looking into the meranda.

Re: HDV in the Symphony Nitris

We recently began using the Convergent Design w/ the Sony HVR-M25 into SN 1.6.1, and ...it works! It is slow sometimes to initially recognize the deck, and seems to work best using the 'generic edit deck' template, rather than the Sony HDR-500 that Symphony seems to think is connected. Batch digitizing goes fairly well over multiple clips, althought there is the occassional hiccup that usually requires exiting and reentering capture mode.

For evaluation, we tested the Miranda, which was not as responsive, and this, combined w/ pretty poor experience w/ the Miranda DV Bridge back when led us to the Convergent, which in itself only seems like a bandaid until Sony (or Someone) builds an actual HDV edit deck w/ proper I/Os, etc.
