2020 iMac. 8-core i7. 128GB RAM.

Wiped it clean.  Installed the latest version of Sonoma.  Installed MC 24.12.

Won't even make it through the launch... crashes out.

Caption I think.  It all happens pretty fast.  It makes it cleanly to the license selection screen, I select 30 day trial.  A bunch of text loads in the splash screen really fast and then it's gone.

Hi. Try right clicking on the mc app itself in application and go to get info. Is Open using Rosetta checked or unchecked? It should be checked for the imac 2020.

Great thought... interestingly, the Rosetta option is not even there at all.

In looking more closely at this I see that 24.10 is an Intel app. 24.12 is a Universal app.  Not sure Rosetta is needed for a Universal app.

More importantly, Rosetta is not used on Intel-based systems like yours.  It is a translation layer that lets Intel binaries (like Media Composer 2024.10) be used on Apple Silicon hardware.

To open Media Composer natively on Apple silicon:

1. Open the Applications folder for Avid Media Composer.
2. Double-click the AvidMediaComposer app to start Media Composer.

Note: If you have previously opened the application using Rosetta emulation, you may need to uncheck the "Open using Rosetta" option as discussed in the next section.

To open Media Composer using Rosetta emulation:

1. Open the Applications folder for Avid Media Composer.
2. Right-click on the AvidMediaComposer app and choose Get Info.
3. Select the checkbox for "Open using Rosetta".
4. Double-click the AvidMediaCompser app to start Media Composer.

The use Rosetta checkbox is not there when I select Get Info unfortunately.

Just curious, can you install 2024.10 and see if that works? Was anything else installed before 2024.12? Also, have you tried to give MC full disk permissions in System Settings - Privacy and Security? And is the macos user that you are launching MC with an admin user?

Brand new install of OS and Avid.  Admin user yes.  I'll look at the privacy thing.

Uninstalling and rolling back to 24.10... need to actually get up and running here. Hopefully this does the trick.

I'm having the same issue: crash on caption at start up.

Intel MacPro, Ventura 13.7.4. MC2024.12

Had the same, today with MC2024.12 & OSX15.2. Suddenly MC was always crashing at "cation.avx".

Fresh MC Install didn't help, but I needed to run the OSX 15.2 installer (was very fast) and then it worked again.
