Re: MC 2024.12 Launched 2.25.2025 - Native and more.....

Nice to finally get a native MC that seems to work well, even with Blackmagic hardware.

Is there any recommended version of Pro Tools qualified for co-installation with 2024.12 on MacOS?

I have PT 2024.6 and I did not see any issue yet, but haven't done any serious work with this configuration. I assume that Pro Tools video engine will be soon derived from native MC in an upcoming release.

The co-install article does not seem up to date.

Yes [Y] Re: MC 2024.12 Launched 2.25.2025 - Native and more.....

Quick speed test with an external plug-in.

A simple test project with a short H.264 UHD clip and a heavy video effect -- Neat Video 6 plug-in for Media Composer (universal) -- applied to it. Exporting to H.264 and measuring the export time.

Apple M1 Max 10-core CPU, 32-core GPU, 64GB unified memory.

Media Composer v2024.12 in native mode : 0:58
Media Composer v2024.12 in Rosetta mode: 2:48

    This is a great improvement!

    Thank you, Avid.

Re: MC 2024.12 Launched 2.25.2025 - Native and more.....

Having a problem starting Avid Background Services. Uninstalled and reinstalled 2024.12 with no luck. Arrows are red as well as the background cue circle under the timeline monitor. The job loads in the cue, but all I see is candy cane bar in the progress window and nothing happens.

MC starts up very fast, beach ball issues seem to be gone, interface is very snappy switching between edit, audio, effects modes, love the waveform in source monitor feature. Mounting shares/drives/workspaces from Nexis in the background while the application is running seems to bring media online like in the past!

Feature Request: Please make it possible for the Title+ tool to create solid color backgrounds without adding text. Just turn on the background and change the color.

    Thanks!

Glad to hear Neat Video is working well with it. Has general timeline rendering improved too?

Yes, all processing involving Neat Video 6, including timeline operations, gets a boost when running in the native mode. Plus MC itself becomes faster.
