Hi,
I currently run 2024.2 on a MacBook Pro.
I want to upgrade to 2024.10 for the new titler.
According to the specs I have a Radeon Pro 560X 4 GB and Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
WILL IT RUN? Because I don't know which number counts. Can anyone help?
To be honest, I really just have to rant a moment, to get this off my chest:
I have been working on Avid for a very long time, and the old titler has served me well. I understand that the new titler may give you more options in certain cases, but most of the time it literally has given me nightmares.
Under real-world every-day life situations, the old titler works totally fine 90% of the time. Now I find myself fiddling with this thing for minutes, just to make a simple text.
Avid, please...PLEASE! Please give us two options! Thats all I am asking for. The new and the old titler. Why is this not possible?
And by the way: if my (not so old) laptop doesnt support the new titler, I am really screwed. The second I add a title, my complete system breaks down as if I am editing on 16K ARRI RAW!!!
I ACTUALLY HAD TO TURN OFF the videotracks which contained the titles, just to write this post, because the performance actually affects writing of texts :))) this is crazy.
Avid, you need to fix this. I trust you.
Hi Mike,
Yes, the systems with Radeon Pro 560x are indeed supported. Go here and click on the link called "Mac CPU Specifications 2024.9" to see it listed: https://avidtech.my.salesforce-sites.com/pkb/articles/en_US/compatibility/en422411
(The 560x is on page 1 in iMacs, and on page 4 in the laptops.)
I'd like you to give the new Titler+ a try by installing Media Composer 2024.10. The woes from previous versions are gone. Yes, the interface is different and the workflow is more modernized... but once you download 2024.10 and run Titler+ you'll instantly see all of the performance issues gone. Just gone. And, you'll see they made a lot of logical upgrades and alterations to how it works and displays things.
Bringing the classic Title Tool back is an impossible solution. It was built on old codewriting that Apple no longer supports. My best analogy is that it runs on leaded gasoline. It simply cannot be made to work in any way inside of the codewriting for an app that runs in the new paradigms presented by modern macOS. However, that's NOT the case for Windows. Windows 10 and Windows 11 both run background functions that still allow that antiquated leaded gasoline to work, whereas the modern macOS do not. So anyone with a Windows computer can still run the classic Title Tool without any issues whatsoever, because the OS permits the codewriting. I've sen a lot of 20-year Mac users convert to Windows recently for this exact reason - to run modern versions of Media Composer with the classic Title Tool. I'm not advocating that, I'm just saying I've seen it as a trend.
I've probably made around 400 hours of broadcast programming using the classic Title Tool (on Macs and on PCs), so I was terrified of seeing it go away... but here I am on a Mac, making documentaries, and running the new Titler+ on 2024.10 and I have to say I'm not terrified anymore. Yes, my muscle memory was affected, and my fingers hit some wrong things occasionally, but I'm bulding new memory and it's really not bad at all. Plus, the designers aren't done with tweaks and upgrades. There's more on the way with forthcoming versions.
