No PAL option when creating projects in First

I'm about to use MC First for teaching some basic editing classes. Full license is not an optio right now.

Question: there are no options at all when creating new projects, as would be in full MC. Just a text box for project name.

I'm in PAL region and all my assets are PAL (25p). MCF creates NTSC 29,97 project and obviously doesn't allow me to change the project later. What gives? The product comparison table on Avid.com specifically mentions Project formats choice with SD PAL, SD NTSC, 720 and 1080. I can create PAL sequences but things like multicams and synced clips, both of which are a feature in First and should therefore work, get created as 29,97 even when the footage is 25.

    Thanks.

This may be a feature AVID chose not to include in the free First edition.

The good news for you is First will do well in a teaching environment, just not in PAL.  First was designed as a teaching tool.

Have you brought footage into First from your PAL clips?  How well does First do converting them?  Just curious.

    Good luck with the classes.

(more good news...First has a decent titler now...make sure to run the latest version)

Re: No PAL option when creating projects in First

On subsequent tries with the very same three pieces of footage (25p video and 48khz audio), the resulting multicam clip was created properly as 25p. I have no idea why this wasn't the case initially, but it looks okay for now. Thanks.
