Hi there,
Since updating to Media Composer 2024.10 I am met with this error message every time I open MC:
"The Current GPU hardware is unsupported because it does not contain the minimum required amount of memory for this application.
Current GPU Memory: 512 MB Mninimum required GPU Memory: 2044 MB.
GPU Accelerated effects are disabled."
It appears that MC is seeing the 512 MB of onboard graphics that my AMD Ryzen 9 7900X CPU has. Once in MC, however, in the Projects -> Video Display settings window, my AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU is chosen in the "Preview DVE effects with:" setting. So it does seem that MC can see and use my GPU. I have not noticed a performance dip since the error message began appearing, but would still welcome any thoughts about what might be causing it and how to fix it.
Best, Philip
That's an interesting quetion. This is not a qualified configuration so this just hasn't been tested.
Is Media Composer actually using the RX 7900 GPU if you try to playback a clip with a Colour Correction effect?
Suspect that Media Composer sees the integrated GPU on startup, but when the project is launched, and the project settings are read, MC will then choose the RX and ignore the iGPU.

The only solution I know is to disable the onboard GPU via BIOS.

I am experiencing the same issue.
Will disabling the onboard GPU affect general operations on the computer outside of avid?
I will be upgrading RAM and graphics card if the old PNY2200 isn't the best choice. Will also be moving to Windows 11.

Thank you for your replies.
I suspect Philip Kapadia is correct that my unsupported PC configuration may be what is causing the error message to appear. Once I open a project it seems that Media Composer does use my discreet GPU, not the CPU onboard graphics. When I begin playback, usage of my 7900 XTX rises to 5% and falls back down when I stop playback. Meanwhile the onboard graphics utilization sits unchanging at 0%.
I use my computer for much more than editing in MC, hence why I did not adhere to an officially supported configuration. For now I will just continue dismissing the warning.
Thanks again.
