Hello Philip, Wondering if there's any update on this?
Or is there a way I can follow this Case Number you quoted?
Thanks
I've had no update on this for around a week or so.
I'm guessing no fix until they sort out the bug and release the next version?
My workaround for now is not to rely on Media Composer but use Davinci Resolve instead.
Using Fairlight makes it easy to assign the correct channels/panning and the exports all seem correct.

I guess I'll do the same. I still find it mystifying why a problem of this magnitude is not causing widespread havic amongst editors and crazy that we have to jump ship to get reliable 5.1 exports

It's a bug we logged about 7 days ago, it's on the backlog.
You can find out if this and other bugs have been resolved by consulting the readme for subsequent versions of Media Composer.

jaygon:Thanks for the reply. When I receive interleaved files the above works for me. Thank you! However if the 5.1 is delivered as 6 seperate MONO tracks I can't get it to work no matter what I try. Even if I check the 'Autodetect Broadcast WAVe Monphonic groups' setting and force Avid to interpret it as a single file, it's all scrambled. So is the take home here that I can only work with 5.1 as interleaved? And what I find most confusing is why very few others seem to be having this problem.

When you receive 6 monophonic clips and link or import them into MC, they will be imported in Pro Tools order (which is the order in which MC works under the hood anyway). So after import/link you need to tell MC that the imported clip is in PT order. After that, it will properly route everything, even if your output and/or meter monitoring is set to SMPTE.
What can be tough to get your head around, is that the multichannel settings for a clip are not there for you to tell MC what channel order you _want_ them to be, but it lets you tell MC what the actual channel order _is_. And weirdly enough, sometimes that's hard to tell, because is you bring in 6 monophonic tracks, MC will bring them in in a channel order without you having any say in the matter, nor do you necessarily know what that order is. You can verify the order, of course, but it is somewhat confusing.
Just as an Update to this bug, I received this from Avid support...

It's been over six months since this problem surfaced, so it looks like it's not going to be an easy fix
