Hello,
This one has really flummoxed me!
So I've been sent a drive of footage to edit, all shot FX6 XAVC, intra 422. So far so normal. But I just can't link to or import the footage (see attached). Shows 'Can't be linked'.
It's very weird because on the same drive is a previous project, shot with the same cameras in the exact same format, and I can link to that fine with MSP_MXF plugin (see second part of attached). What changed?!
I can play the problem footage in Catalyst Browse and VLC so I know the media is there and plays.
I've tried copying to a different drive, and also opening a new project without success.
I'm going to ask for the footage to be sent again but as I can actually play it in other apps I'm not sure that will help.
Anyone have any bright ideas? It's driving me crazy!
Many thanks
Dylan

I would try linking the files on a different Avid system to learn more about this. Will that different Avid system have no issues...or the same as you've described?

Hi Jef,
Thanks for this. Can I make sure I'm doing what you suggest correctly?
In the input/link window I'm right clicking the Plug-in column - where it currently says 'can't be linked'.
The drop down gives me a 'link with' option - Autodetect, Canon XF Plugin for AMA, MXF, UME link.
In the previous files I've been working with - which link OK - I've seen Avid is using 'MXF' of these options, and 'UME' when there's a MP4 wrapper.
Sadly I can't link with these or any of the options.
I also tried to download the Nablet AMA plugin, but that hasn't helped either.
Last resort - asking to be sent the rushes again in case there was an issue there.
Thanks again,
Do you have the entire folder structure of the media intact?
Have you tried to link by volume to the folder structure? You have to clip a box in source browser to do that. See below. Top left square.

Thanks for this,
I can't figure out how to get that list of plug-ins in the Console though - that's would be useful.
Just FYI the only workaround I've figured out is to use Sony Catalyst to re-export all the files, same as source.
And for some reason those files are then readable by Avid.
No idea what that tells me about the original issue.
Hello Dylan,
Are you in a position to email me a very small sample of these clips which won't link, for me to test and analyze in my lab?
