    Difference MC 2022 MC 2023 MC 2024

Hi everyone! I've had a hard time trying to find an answer online to this simple question: what's the difference between Avid Media Composer 2022.x / Avid Media Composer 2023.x and Avid Media Composer 2024.x ? And are old projects compatible with the latest versions? Thank you very much for your answers Best

    Hi TimeToFilm,

It's mostly the features that it offers which can be found in each of ther version's What's new documentation. Below are the links for the MC 2022, 2023 and 2024 documentation where you can find the What's New document.

Re: Difference MC 2022 MC 2023 MC 2024

Yes it is confusing. There ideally should be some kind of cross Matrix, for this particularly, with actual release dates; since the documents' published dates often change through revision, and are not a reliable guide, for that. This would be particularly useful now that most versions before late September '23, have been removed.

There's no correlation between say a 22 and 23 release point, you often have to go off similar bug fixes, that made it into both. I really still find the whole concurrent LTM thing baffling. Surely it takes precious development resources away from elsewhere? I could see a point (excuse the pun) between '18 and '2x, old and new interfaces but why people would still be on '19 or '20 as opposed to '22 or '23, is equally baffling to me. Most all facilities I see here are on some stable version of 2022.12; infact I haven't come across one on '23, let alone '24.

Surely you can put up one stable version of just both? I can't think of another enterprise level software with so many confusing concurrent versions, of just one app, in development, that have no obvious benefits or differences. I'd be very interested to hear the explanation for that.

Hi Ajay, thank you for your reply. Actually I have to agree with Mercer here, this is very confusing indeed. I was looking for a simple explanation, not having to read dozens of KB's and documentation explaining What's new in a *.new version of 2022/2023/2024 in terms of features. I second the fact that most facilities still run on 2022 version. My question is simple: Generally speaking why should one upgrade from 2022 to 2023 (or 2024) ? Put another way, is there anything you won't find in 2022 that is present in 2023 or 2024? And if so, why offer a 2023 and a 2024 version? Thank you in advance for your answer

Re: Difference MC 2022 MC 2023 MC 2024

    Hi,

Most users upgrade to a specific version of Media Composer based on the compatibility of their hardware (OS version or specific hardware).  Also, new features are added in the latest build which can enhance a specific workflow for a user or group of users.  Some examples are the ScriptSync AI and PhraseFind AI options that was introduced in the MC 2023 version as well as exporting of transcript and subcap from a sequence which is available in version 2024 as well.  In addition users also upgrade for fixes and stability improvements.

I found this matrix which has the list of the enhancement and feature that each version of Media Composer offers.

I also added this link below which has the demo video for the features each MC version offers.

    Thanks,
