    Win 11 2024.2 full freeze

We have reistalled a number of z8's from 2023.12 Win 10 to Win 11 and 2024.2 We get full system freezes which only a restart fixes usually with an export. We tried changing Nvidia BMD drivers, removing BMD altogether. The freeze usually happens after the CPU fans speed up. This is usually with an export of some sort.  It isn't sequence dependent. Same hardware with Win 10 doesn't seem to have this.

It tends to be repeatable, so we can crash 5 times in a row doing the same task

We have this on several machines. All Avid spec Z8's - all worked before on win 10 2023, But all updated with Bios, drivers etc etc.

Full system freeze gives no useful log info.

Any one seen this .. We are running out of ideas other than abandoning win 11.

What is your export method and codec? UME, Quicktime, h264, hevc, dnx, prores? Always the same export method or any export method exhibits the issue? Media local or media on shared storage? Export destination local or to shared storage?

We've tried several export types. We think some use less CPU and so don't seem to crash - like AVC seems possibly more reliable than H264. We had it happen with DNX though. Export to local and network storage the same issue.

Fundementally nothing in our workflow has changed

Most comments relate to PC hardware but we think definitely not as it's on mutliplt machines.

We're trying to nail down what makes it go wrong but the sequence can just be one clip and it still crashes.

Also in our expereince not many things completely freeze the PC. Normal avid crashes don't actually completely stop the PC.

This is complete failure although the displays still show the GUI it's just frozen and nothing unfreezes it other than power off.

    Hi nigelgourley,

Just wanted to check if there is a specific export format on where the crashing happens? Any error message appear when it crash? Also, have you tried doing a downgrade back to 2023.12 to see if the same issue will happen?

    Thanks,

    Ajay

As lots of things have changed between setups it'll be process of elimination.

As ajay says, first thing is rule avid out. Go back to matching version.

then as you've upgraded bios, make sure all the avid settings are enabled/disabled.

also for nvidia, check whether the power settings are correct in nvidia

    control panel.

also I assume there's no items showing yellow triangles device manager that need drivers.
