Hey Nims.....
Chris passed this along to our QA lead and he indicates that overall that is a very dangerous blanket recommendation to make.
Those files you mention are the project and settings files.
As we know corruption can occur, we would ONLY recommend deleting those files in a case by case basis and not associate this with BMD issues. Something else was going on.....

Nims: Thank you Marianna, Just FYI, it was under a different username and account that I was told the crashing upon quit is related to the BMD driver. Happy to share that account info privately.

Please do and send that to my email... :)
Thanks so much.
Hi Marianna,
I just emailed you, subject: "From "Nims""
Thank you!
Hi everyone,
I'm Josh, one of the the engineers who's been looking into this issue. Currently I'm testing this with an M2 Studio 32GB OS13.6.1, Ultrastudio 4k mini v12.8.1.
I've been trying to reproduce these issues here in Burlington for a few weeks and I'm just not running into anything like you're all talking about. I'm hoping the devil is in the details on this one and that maybe I'm just missing some crucial bit of info that's being taken for granted. Can I start by asking those of you who are experiencing the beachballs/hangs to give me details on your project and media types and perhaps a summary of your workflow? No detail is too small but I'm really looking for things like settings, timeline mode, scrub, effects and things like that which really impact the player. If anyone is willing to provide actual media in the form of full projects, user and media that would be particularly enlightening.
Hi Josh,
Editing short scenes, a couple minutes long, is doable, not many crashes.Though JKL control though and trim is not as good as it used to be. Often short audio dips at the very start of playback, sometimes with a short annoying left-right change (even with centered tracks).

Hi Josh, I can't speak first hand for Mac; but there definitely seems to be an issue with DV 12.9, across both platforms, that hasn't been acknowledged yet by BMD; in my case with an Ultrastudio 4K Mini (and perhaps the same with the DNxID) it actually bricks the device (this I have seen on both PC and Mac); and I'm seeing both Ultrastudios and Decklinks (but not all) totally unrecognised (but not bricked) by Desktop Video; across both platforms. Reverting to 12.8.1 (with a forced firmware update, where bricked), solves the issue; again on both platforms. I don't know if this is of any help to you.
M1 compatibility solved !!!
Up to now, the only stable version of Avid that worked on my M1 Studio Max 32Gb ram was 2022.7. All of the newer versions gave a spinning beachball after a few minutes of editing.
Imagine my surprise when I updated my system to Sonoma, and retried 2024.2. I've been working for days now without a crash.
Avid 2024.2
BMD 12.9
Sonoma 14.4.1
So happy !!!
Keep us posted if anything changes.......
Hi Euchrow,
Is your combination (M1 + Sonoma + MC 2024.2 + BMD 1.8.1) still stable and fully functioning?
Are you editing short or long (above 20') sequences?
Curious what the state of this issue is right now? I'm on Media Composer 2022.12.3 and using Desktop Video 12.4.2 and it's been a huge pain for me. Lots of performance/playback problems that I've just put up with for ages.
Are things any better on Desktop Video 12.8.1, 12.9, or 14.0.1?
I'm on Mac Studio M1 Ultra with Ventura 13.4.1.
I too would appreciate an update regarding the issues with Avid MC and Blackmagic I/O components. I'm on a Mac Studio M2 and Ventura 13.5 with Desktop Video 12.4.2 and have not been working without issues for a full year. Do any of the new released versions fix the problem?
Same,
I have M1 Studio and BM card with AVID is unusable, waiting for this issue to be resolved probably as long as this topic exists. I don't understand how this can be an issue for so long.
It's super frustrating, even more so when I work in davinci and see how fluent and fast this combination works.

Hello both,
Please send me an email...
Seems like some users are still stuck with this issue, but most aren't. I would like to figure out what's going on here.

Thank you for messages, it really helped us after a year of struggle with Mac Studio M2 Max, Ventura, and Blackmagic. Sonoma seems to really do the trick, it all feels much more stable now (latest Sonoma, Avid 24.2, BMD 12.8.1).
