Hi all,
I am wondering how we all use the blackmagic web presenter to stream our edit suite outputs to clients?
I have the web presenter getting it's input from my I/O card's SDI stream, then connected via USB into a dell optiplex office computer side station, which is running my webcalls.
At the moment, I use Jitsi web conferencing because it's good and offers unlimited call time for free. I open up one webcall with the video and audio from the blackmagic web presenter, and another webcall where me and a client discuss the edit, so two jitsi webcalls.
I can't have the blackmagic web presenter, and my headset mic on the same webcall, as Jitsi does not allow you to use two mics simultaneously... one mic from the web presenter, and another other from my headset.
Is there a smarter way to use the blackmagic web presenter? How is everyone else doing it?
My preferred method:
- MC workstation with BMD WP (or alternative USB capture card) and Zoom installed, MC output is routed back into the system via USB
- secondary computer with webcam and mic and Zoom installed.
Zoom calls are initiated from tye Secondary computer. The MC workstation (with a different account) is invited to join the call. On the MC workstation, Zoom is set to use the USB card as camera and mic, with Zoom audio set to "use original audio".
Clients are invited to the same call. As the host, you can Pin the video of the MC workstation for everyone on the call, or use Screen Sharing and select to share the USB device.
You, on your secondary system, are seeing and hearing the very same thing as the clients are. With the same delay too ( which makes actual editing this way somewhat tedious). Zoom takes care of who hears what, and you don't have to watch headphones on the call -- although you can.
Thanks Job. Interesting.
Just some background... I have got a fiber 1000mbps internet pipe to my suite. Most of my sessions are with America, from the UK. I have found Jitsi has less latency than zoom. Also found with google meets that it does something funny with the web presenter's audio from time to time. Something to do with gmeet trying to auto supress feedback maybe?
That's a different way of doing it and easier for the client only having to manage one webcall, but trying to edit with delayed audio from the webcall would drive me up the wall. Not to mention that wouldn't sync up with the local picture on my ref mon. I would prefer hearing local audio via my studio monitors, and wait for my client to feedback. I know they are about a second behind what I'm seeing.
I am trying to figure out if there is a way to do that without having to open two seperate webcalls
I abandoed my web presenter, and now do it all through zoom and a blackmagic AETM Mini pro.
I can hook up 4 sources, and 2 mics all through this little switcher. It plugs into my computer via USB3, which allows it to take the output of my NLE as a webcam...just like the web presenter. But on top of that i can plug in a proper camera, another HDMI from my graphics card to show my desktop, and still have 1 input left over...usually my hyperdeck for other playback functions.
There are two mic inputs, so no fussing aroiund with separate software to hear me talk over the NLE. I can turn on and off audio for any video source with the push of a button. Load a still and have it "Live" when i first connect to zoom so i'm not looking like an idiot sitting there waiting for them to connect.
Beem using it for a good year and a half or so. Quite handy having a little switcher at your side during a zoom call.
Interesting, Thnx!
