We have some footage that was shot on PDW-F800 in XDcam format.
No editing software (MC/Resolve/Premiere/Media Encoder) recognises it either at the folder level or individual MXF level.
The camera is from ~2009 so I wonder if support for older file-based formats has been quietly dropped?
If anyone knows... thanks!
Hi David,
I can not imagine that suddenly all those NLE's aren't working anymore, or have been dropping support for Sony Professional Disc media all at once without any notification.
My guess is that, it has something to do with the device you are trying to get to the footage.
What version of Media Composer are you using?
Are you trying to link from the disc/storage or import the footage from the disc/storage?
Which device are you using to get the footage into your Media Composer? PDW-U1, PDW-U2, PDW-HD1500, PDW-F1600, XDS-PD1000, or the PDW-F800 itself, ...?
When using the camcorder to get to the footage, is the camcorders FAM Mode or Ethernet Mode enabled?
Do you have all the needed drivers and software installed on your system and devices? FAM Driver, XDCAM Drive software, Nablet XAVC XDCAM AMA Plugin, ...?
Greetings,
Ivan
Are you using the SxS Memory cards, or importing via usb cable?
I imported some EX-1R footage MPEG 2 35mbs MPEG 4 wrapper into Vegas Pro 20 last week. (Win 10 22H2)
Using MC 23.12. Win 22H2 Avid FX6.4, Vegas Pro 20/ DVD Architect 6pro, DVDit6.4proHD, CCE Basic, TmpGe Express4, TmpGe Authoring Works 4, DVDLab-Studio. Sony EX-1R, Canon XH-A1, GL2, GL1, Canon EOS 60D

A Sony PDW-F800 uses Professional Discs.
The footage was shot on XDcam discs and has been copied to local storage and has the folder structure below. So I sort of doubt that it's to do with the medium and rather compatibility. The audio in the media folder is readable but the video track is not, by Avid/Davinci/Premiere. Perhaps it is corrupt , but what with this all being software based, eg relying on manafacturers to keep the plugins up to date and working, I feel that compatibility may have ceased...

Can you see the clips in the XDCAM Viewer software?

Make sure you have the proper XDCAM hardware drivers installed. The disc icon will be an XDCAM disk if the driver is installed and it is mounted properly.
Also, the proper AMA plugins are needed. Download it from Nablet.

i think Dom has the solution. more than 10 years ago and cant remind everything but you have to install the correct FAM(?) driver for the reader.
if not, you See a folder structure you think everything is fine but they are incorrect, there are a some hidden folders yet.
Hello,
I would try the Catalyst browser, it is quite successful in fixing errors in files and save structures.

V.
for some reason, i have test clips of XDCAM in two formats...the XDCAM disc and the EX drive version. Both as folders, etc and not physical discs.
The XDCAM disc footage had all of its full resolution footage in the Userdata folder as MXF files and they came in fine. The Proxies are in the SUB folder.
The EX footage was a series of MP4 files in folders under the CLPR folder...
like this:
Cam1_Card_1_XDCAM_EX\BPAV\CLPR\686_1259_01
they also came in fine, either importing or linking.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for your replies, I'll give those a try...
Dave
