Hello Everyone.
Im thinking about upgrading my home set up from three dell monitors, two are Ultrasharp and the third is a box standard computer monitor (using this one in full screen mode) and cheap £10 speakers i bought years ago because I thought I wouldnt be working from home a lot.
Im thinking of upgrading to Genelec monitor speakers and a 'proper monitor'. I'm unsure on which but ill be greatful of any suggestions that aren't £1000's - if at all necessary. Do I get another Dell Ultrasharp? And then running this all through Blackmagic Ultra Studio Mini HD via single thunderbolt
I'm running everything off my 2018 Mac Mini, 3Ghz 6 Core Intel Core i5, Intel UHD Graphics, 16GB Ram with Ventura OS. This has been great for the last few years. I've been mainly remoting into facilities and then editing short 10min offline and online edits actually on the machine.
I've also recently got 2022.12.0.56274 build on the Mac Mini with no issues - yet.
Before I ho ahead with the upgrades, is there anything I'm not considering. Will my Mac Mini be able to handle everything? Will Avid handle it?
Any adivce is welcome!
What is the majority of work that you do? Broadcast? Web? Theatrical? The answer to that would inform what type of program monitor to get.
The fact that you have a Blackmagic Ultra Studio Mini HD means you are in a good place if you need to do critical monitoring for broadcast.

Hey Jef,
I dont have a Ultra Studio Mini HD yet, Im looking to get that soon.
When I remote in, its always broadcast.
When Im working on Avid from my machine, its more web based content.
Well, if you are doing broadcast work you should really be looking at a monitor that supports interlace as that is still a standard. Not exactly sure what you mean by "remote in". But if you have media at your location and are planning on viewing the media via your computer for broadcast, then having the Ultra Studio Mini HD feeding a monitor that supports interlace would be best as you could see any issues. Now what to get? If you are doing just HD then I would try to find a HD monitor.
Now this could be risky but a reasonable quality regular TV that accepts HDMI could work and should not be too expensive. You won't find an OLED to fit the bill (too bad - they look great) because they are all UHD. And I would NOT recomend that. Why? Becuase a UHD monitor will have to upconvert HD to UHD. So you are not looking at the true HD image. You do not know if an artifact you see is really there or being created by the TV.
A computer monitor will not (generally) handle interlace correctly so I would not go that route. But if you are only doing web then that could work (web is all progessive).
It would be nice to have a really Pro monitor such as an FSI, but that will be expensive. Sony does make some LCD HD monitors. And there are other lesser known companies making production monitors. Take a look at B&H.
Just some random thoughts.
