Right mix of 17 cams. I need to work in i as the majority are i and seem to get artefacts when exporting if working in P.
Its music so need to output P really - what the best way to achieve that from within Avid and without any Saphire plugins etc? Been a while since I did it as always have to work in i for TV! Cheers.

Have you tried bringing the interlaced content into a Progressive timeline and experimenting with the motion adapter that will be applied?
As you need to export as a P its best if you can do that conversion in the timeline so you can see the result during the edit.
Remember you can promote to fluid motion for any shots that still don't look good. But the render times are long and they can produce artefacts of their own.

My go to interlace to progressive tool these days is Resolve Studio (must be Studio). It does a good job. But it needs a timeline where the clips are flagged as interlace and progressive. You could come up with some tricky ways to get there from Avid. Or try to do the whole thing from an interlaced output.

I tend to get that zig zag interlaced effect on hand movement etc when I do that Pat. Its a big arena concert and fluid motion always gets screwed by the flashing lights in my experience.
I thinkI need to work in i as the P can cope with that but not vice versa. How to get a P output after that somehow that retains vertical resolution?
Cheers and thanks for the help.

I'd go for Blended Interpolated, which shouldn't be thrown out of whack by flashing lights. You will, however, always lose some vertical resolution.
P.S.: If you need to output in P, I would work in P, not I.
Also remember to render effects in P as well or you will have to re-render everything when you output in P.
