I've been told by Avid that there were bug fixes with regard to re-linking media and thus I might want to upgrade my Avid MC 2018.5 to 2019.12. I've been advised to uninstall the old version and install the 2019.12 version. Installing anything newer might cause probs.
Has anyone updated from 2018.5 to 2019.12? Did it cause any problems? I'm wondering what to expect? Should I do it? I am about to take on a paid editing job and will eventually need to re-link. I guess I should cross that bridge if I get to it?
Thanks.

Plenty of people staying on 2018 but I'd go upto the last version 2018.12.15
There have been UI changes since 2018 version any have held out to avoid.

I wonder who at Avid would make that suggestion. I can't think of a reason to do so. Anyway...
If your license allows it I would update to 2018.12.15 at the earliest possible moment and stay on it. If you want to use the new UI the latest 2021 or 2022 patches (2021.12.3 and 2022.7 at this moment) are your best options.

I would defiinately upgrade and test it out before embarking on a new project. Assuming you have a clean slate prior to starting any new project(s). It is relatively painless to go back to your current version if you so decide.

I am in the middle of 2 projects about to take on a third. The reason Avid said to install 2019.12 is because that was the version with the bug fix regarding re linking. Also the third project I'm about to take on was cut on Premiere. I asked how to import the Premiere project and timeline into Avid MC. Avid customer care suggested the Premiere project be exported as AAF and therefore another reason to install 2019.12 in order to import the AAF. HOWEVER I just found out the former editor did NOT export the Premiere project or files as AAF and the drives are on their way to me Fed EX... AND my 2018.5 has been working just fine. Not sure what to do.
Has anyone imported a premiere project/AAF on Avid MC 2018.5? Do I need to upgrade to 2019.12?
