Hello i have had some problems with color space and color encoding recently. i have recently joined a project and have been given footage to work on until picture lock, afterwards i will be exporting the project as an AAF file to hand over to a colorist who will work on it in DaVinci.
When i first went into Avid and created a new prokect the color space option i used was Ycbcr 709, however when i linked my footage and viewed it in the source monitor i noticed that the footage was slighlty different compared to viewing it in VLC. i put a linked clip into the timeline to have a closer look at noticed there was an affect already applied labelled as "COLOR ADAPTER" there were two transformations on it as well "Linear REC2020 to Linear CIE XYZ" and Linear CIE XYZ to Linear Rec709" i wasnt able to remove the effect but i read somwhere that you can go into source settings for each clip and under Color Encoding select "bypass all colour transformation" i checked the box and it did change the colour but when i unchecked it again the whole clip basiccaly turned pink (See Picture) also, despite only doing this for one file, every single file in all my bins now look like this as well even tho essentially all setting are the same as when i first started the project.
Can anyone please explain if i have done something wrong as i am very new to Avid still and color space/encoding is something i have never looked into before

If you are passing an AAF to the grade and you are only offlining then colour space isn't really an issue.
Unless you have a P3 colour space or better then you need to work in rec709
Avid knows the source footage has a larger re 2020 cour space so it's adding colour adapters to bring rec2020 to rec709.
I certainly wouldn't rely on VLC as a reference.

Thanks for the reply, as i only ingested a small amount of footage prior i have created a new project and everything seems fine now that i'm not messing with the color space.
