ericswanson:Does anyone know if the next version of Media Composer will continue to support Intel, or will it Apple Silicon only? I'm still running an iMac Pro (Intel).
Hi ericswanson,
Yes, it will support both Intel and Apple Silicon.
Thanks,
Ajay
Any update on Media Composer?
Will the new M-Chip be optimized to take advantage of the new speed potentials and match the transcoding times found in Resolve?
I am so desperate for this release :(
Hey everyone.......
The issue with BlackMagic Design (BMD) and Media Composer should now be fixed. The fix is in 2 parts which includes installation of Media Composer v2024.12 (released today) with the latest BMD driver. Desktop Video 14.5 aso expected to be released by Blackmagic at around the same time. This means that the most common issues seen with the HDMI loss of signal should now be fully addressed.
Note: If users are running the new BMD driver, but are still running Media Composer 2024.10 or earlier, which launches MC with Rosetta, they may continue to see the previous HDMI issues.
Media Composer v2024.12 is the first version to be run natively (without Rosetta) on ARM (silicon) Macs.
When BMD does release the driver publicly, it will show up here” https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/ in the “Latest Downloads” area.

Thank you Avid, keep working.
The 14.5 blackmagic desktop video driver is now up on the BMD site.
Looking forward to hearing the feedback and WELL DONE AVID!
Andi
how has performance been for folks thus far?

Pricing up some new Macs now and super excited to finally be able to pull the trigger on these. Do we think an M4 Mac Studio with 64GB will be sufficient for HD multicam? 10 cameras, Prores HQ. Better to go with the 128GB option? Apple wants an extra £800 to go from 64>128 which is insane.
Hey Andi!
Did you ever get any responses, either here or on other forums? I'm in the same upgrade boat and I can't tell if the M4 Max is a better fit for Avid than the M3 Ultra. Wondering if you finally pulled the trigger and what you decided on...
Didn't hear back from anyone but have settled on the M4 Max with 64GB I think after watching a bunch of youtube reviews and benchmarks. We are waiting on a series to get recomissioned and then the new budget will become available so will be trying to upgrade as soon as that happens. 128GB would be ideal but the cost/performance is not there I feel. It's a shame there's no 96GB option on the Max. I'll update when I have something solid but it's a waiting game right now with the money people.
