    Crashes when trimming audio files

    Hello,

I just upgraded my computer to the recent MacBook Pro M1 as well as the latest MC version, and I have problem with constant crashes when editing the same project as before. I can trim the videofiles but not the audio. Why? And everything worked fine when I was working in the project in MC 2019.

    Thanks for helping..!

    /Elisabet

    Hey,

Could you try re-setting your User settings and your Site settings?

For user settings simply create a new user profile.

Follow this tutorial for site settings: https://youtu.be/l0vJhAtMS2Y

What sort of crash do you get, Is it an error message? Beachball?

Click this option > create new user profile

The user settings often corrupt and you have to "re-build" them.

    Yes I did :)

But when I thought my issues was connected to trimming the sound, I realise that I get the beachball for no reason, just soon after I launched it. It seems to be something corrupt with my user profile? I have created a new one and wanted to create the short cuts there got lost - and bang - beachball again.

    Any idea...?

    Thanks again!!

    Hello again,

If SOMEONE would be kind to help me by joining a Google meet so I can share my screen and we could go through my configuration etc and solve my issues - I'll put your name under THANKS TO in my coming film credit - a feature documentary shot in Mali 2017.

I'm getting desperate since I have a deadline for my film and would appreciate so much if someone could help me....

I'd try creating a new Project with a similar name.

Then copy your main sequence from the old project to the new one.

Create a fresh user profile in the new project and then test.

I'm not sure a remote session will help much as when your Mac beach balls the remote session will likely freeze.

Ok, but what do I do with all the bins? I copy the sequence ctrl+c and then paste in a new project?

I have huge project, and 60 folders under Avid Media files on my drive, and 3 Tb rushes...

I just discover under Preferences and Format, it says "35 mm 4 perf"

I dont recall having seentthat before. What does that mean..?

So strange everything. Plus tons of files got out of synch for no reason.

I'm so fed up with Avid at this point....

Re: Crashes when trimming audio files

    Hello there,

Okay - so with a larger project, moving the bins to another project can be a bit messy. Make sure to make a backup copy of your project before doing this. Here is the way to do it:

Go to your Avid project folder, Find your project, then locate all the BINS AND FOLDERS within your project > Open media composer > Create a new PROJECT in Media Composer > Close Media Composer > COPY OVER the BINS AND FOLDERS from the old project to the new project. (The .AVB files are the most important files containing your sequence and master clips).

Then you should be able to open up Media Composer in that new project, and your bins with your timeline will already be there. It's all about moving the BINS, not the individual master clips and sequences to that new project.

    Here's a quick tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7A9UGdwQ38&ab_channel=avidbeer

Copying over the sequence to another project is a great troubleshooting suggestion because the project can become corrupted sometimes.

On another note, do you have a valid support contract? It might be worth creating a support case: https://www.avid.com/learn-and-support/contact-support or contacting Chris Bove: [email protected]

If none of those options help, email me and I would be happy to help you privately.

Re: Crashes when trimming audio files

    Hello,

Thanks for tips. I tried it but got 5 crashes when trying to export. It finally came through but this is killing me.

Just found out that Monterey 12.2 measn bugs running MC. So this will stay then...? I thought I would secure my project when finishing it, by buying a new Macbook pro + harddrive but it's just complicating my life 100 %.

Is there any chance these bugs can be solved...?

    Kind regards,

Re: Crashes when trimming audio files

    Hello Elisabet,

Accorsding to the Apple compatibility matrix, The latest MC version (2021.12) Is supported up to MAC OS Monterey 12.0, 12.1

Is it possible for you to downgrade your apple system down to 12.1?

Also, I wonder if you were always having these issues? Did these issues just suddenly appear, or did they come up after you upgraded your operating system?

Which export settings did you use that is causing your system to crash?

Finally, Do you have an active support contract, Are you able to create a support case through this link? https://www.avid.com/learn-and-support/contact-support

Re: Crashes when trimming audio files

I’ll check for the down grade but not sure. Regarding export, no, never had that pbm before and I chose quick time reference, mp4, h264 and h265 and half the size of the original. It worked after 5 tries but it got half way through earlier and I had to exit by force.

Regarding sound trimming pbms, it never occurred before either. What did take time before was moving the entire project on the timeline, to the left or right. But I figured that was due to my old computer and that’s why I bought a new computer.  And no, I haven't purchased a support agreement.   Kindly,  Elisabet
