Great news… The new Media Composer v2021.9 is available today, Thursday, September 30th, 2021.
Status of Support Plan: The ability to launch this Media Composer 2021.9 software is dependent on the status of a customer’s Upgrade and Support Plan on the date this software version is released. Media Composer 2021.9 is released on Thursday, September 30th, 2021.
Media Composer Notes:
MCDEV-11537 If you intend to use full-frame stereoscopic with an Avid Artist DNxIQ, you may want to remain with Media Composer v2018.12.x until the issues with Stereoscopic support are resolved in a future version.
Security Guidelines
As system and network security attacks become increasingly more inventive and persistent, Avid has adopted a new security strategy to help you, our customer and partner, better protect your assets and intellectual property. As you might know, Avid has traditionally recommended Symantec Endpoint Protection as the preferred and qualified solution for much of the Avid product line. As of Q3, 2020, Avid introduced a more flexible strategy that provides general guidelines for protecting your Avid systems. This new policy allows you to choose the best security solution for your organization, while still following Avid best practices. Avid Media Composer allows you to install an endpoint detection and response solution on your system. While Avid does not support any specific solution, you can find general guidelines and information related to CrowdStrike Falcon on the following Avid Knowledge Base page https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/troubleshooting/en239659
Changed in Media Composer v2021.9: The following are new for Media Composer v2021.9:
Updated Message
The editing application notifies you if your third party storage is emulating Avid NEXIS or Avid ISIS storage. With this release, the error message has been updated:
In addition, this message appears:
Default Change for Bin Frame View
With this release, you will notice the following: If clips have an assigned clip color, the color will appear as a border on clips in Frame View by default. You will see this change if you create a new user setting after installing Media Composer v2021.9.
Move Clip Leaves Filler
You can use an option in the Timeline menu that allows you to leave filler when you move clips up and down over multiple tracks in a sequence. When you select the Move Clip Leaves Filler option in the Timeline menu, a check mark appears next to the option indicating it is enabled. When you do not want to leave filler, simply select the Move Clip Leaves Filler option again to remove the check mark.
Improved Bin Column Width Adjustments
Bin Column widths can now be manually adjusted. Simply drag the separator between column headers to resize the column. The bin width is saved when you save or close the bin. You can also double-click on the separator between columns to resize the entire column, not just the visible area.
What’s Fixed in 2021.9: The following has been fixed.

Is there no "what's new..." doc - or was it so little that it's all included in the above? I see no mention of improvements to Titler+.

What about the extra audio and video tracks? Or the grid snapping? Is SRT not included in this release as was mentioned in the live stream?

I just installed 2021.9 and now it crashes every single time I launch. If I click debugger it goes to project window and i can open project and everythign seems to be fine. If I click continue it crashes back to desktop. Should I roll back? Was hoping this 2021.9 would fix the backwards compatibilty issue with 2018 which 2021.6 caused and hoping to move forward ....any advice?

Combined with the missing "What's New" this does not inspire confidence.

Hello Dale,
I started a support case for you 04259497. I forwarded it to our technical team to investigate.

Hello Andi, This version is primarily a bug-fix release. We have announced new features like the SRT, Increased track limits for Audio and Video, and a few more mentioned. We needed a little more time on these. I will keep you guys updated for more details. Thanks, RalphC
Ralph, those features were announced specifically in a What's new in 2021.9 video. Wow. I really don't know what to say about this. So after 4 months and a big streaming "event" all we get is the ability to adjust a column and a coloured frame around a clip in frame mode? This is pretty staggering. And not in a good way.
Hi, I'd like to updated my mac to macOS 11.6. Can someone please tell me if MC 2021.9 will work on it?
Thank you.

Sorry, but 11.6 is not supported with any version of Media Composer yet.

On the project window, when selecting the "Film" checkbox to choose 16mm, 35mm 3 perf or 4 perf there seems to be an issue with displaying the selected choice correctly. 16mm looks correct, both the 35mm options don't display correctly. Anyone else see the same? Not a problem for me at all but it was literally on the very first dialog of the program. Kinda like not spotting a spelling mistake in the title of a book.
Edit: Same with the "Manage Presets" dialog and the "Search Data folder" doesn't display the full path.

Thanks for checking, I'll check my drivers
Don't know if this is the proper thread for these, but here I go:
stereo wave files imported by drag and drop come in with centre pan. I did not check import via the Source browser, nor link and transcode.
MC crashes when You copy content to the clipboard via the Composer button (or cut/lift) and click the Clipboard contents button under the player monitor. Fresh new user settings btw. Can't remember whether the Clipboard contents button is there by default or I mapped it though.
If anyone can reproduce either of those please chime in.
