I got a new system with Big Sur and the slowdowns are making life difficult.
Trying to import PNG files from photoshop into a project, mainly because for some strange reason, my system stuggles with Titler+ (PLEASE BRING BACK TITLE TOOL FOR 64 BIT OSs!!!!!).
Newest problem, can't drag png files into a bin. Crash.
Can't use the source browser to import. Crash.
Please can someone help?
Nobody's responded to this, but I guess I"ll just als ask, has 2021.6 and Big Sur completely lost all drag and drop functionality? I can't seem to drag PNGs, JPGs, MP3s, or any audio file for that matter.
In the absence of any replies, I've managed to figure out the source of this problem (and many others I was having) and thought I would post here for anyone's benefit.
With Big Sur, apparently you have to go into Sys prefs>Security and Privacy>Full Disk Access and check Avid Media Composer.
If you don't do this a lot of error messages and bugs happen without explanation.
So I'm getting through the inevitable pain of upgrading.
Still don't understand why they don't just make a title tool that works with 64 bit.
Good info. Thank you for posting as I am about to receive a iMac refurb which may have Big Sur. You may have saved me some pain.

An editor called me with this issue (Big Sur MacOS 11.1) with Media Composer 2021.6 (I think) and not being able to import png files. We tried your tip of checking Avid Media Composer under Security and Privacy > Full Disc Access but it had no effect. Using the Source Browser to import the PNG resulted in the message "The file <path to .png> cannot be linked. Do you want to import it?" and selecting "Yes" would result in a spinning beach ball. We ended up opening the .png in the Quicktime app as a 24 fps image sequence and saving that as Quicktime Prores file and option dragging that from Finder to bin which resulted in a 1 frame linked UME clip and then transcoding that. Applying a freeze frame wasn't possible in the 23.98 project with the 24 fps clip so we did a video mixdown to create a 30 second clip of it. Just to get a PNG image into the Avid. Ridiculous.

They have... it's the titler +
I suspect that the old titler just couldn't be updated to 64 bit. It might have needed a complete re-write from 32 to 64.

Yeah but getting back on topic -- how do you import PNG's into Avid on Big Sur? Surely my ridiculous workaround can't be the solution.
Does it work if you convert png to .tiff?

Also try re-setting your user settings and use the source browser again to ingest the PNG.
We might have tried that, I don't remember -- this was 120 days ago.
I advised the editor to get a refurbished iMac for his June project in the hopes that it would be an older MacOS. I even called Apple Support while his iMac was pending shipment just to verify my assumptions/hopes that a refurbished iMac would be pre-Big Sur (because... Avid, and a Mac was needed for professional editing purposes) and Apple Support said in all likelihood yes it would be. So I was disappointed to see it was Big Sur when it arrived. And it seemed like right out of the box (new iMac, installing Avid and creating new user settings) that there were import issues with Big Sur and Avid. So I don't know what resetting user settings 120 days ago would have achieved, when the system started off with brand new settings and import issues 134 days before that.
This is just a side note on re-installing MacOS. You said it was an older refurb model. Even though it shipped to you with BigSur Apple provides a method to re-install the original OS that came with that model. For example if it were a 2018 model you can re-install the OS that shipped on it in 2018.
On an Intel-based Mac: Choose Apple menu > Restart, then immediately press and hold one of these key combinations, depending on what you want to do: Install the latest version of macOS compatible with your computer: Option-Command-R. Reinstall your computer’s original version of macOS (including available updates): Option-Shift-Command-R.
He got a "Refurbished 27-inch iMac 3.8GHz 8-core Intel Core i7 with Retina 5K display" in June 2021, so which OS could that be re-installed to? I had assumed that what OS it boots to out of the box is what it originally came with, not that Apple refurbishes and then updates the OS before shipping. 'Cause that's just mean of Apple being so "helpful"
