I'm at my wits' end. I just updated to the latest version and tried to open a new project. It opened without a video track on the timeline (and the TC track at the top, which seems odd). I imported a mp4 file and dropped it into the source monitor, where it looked and played absolutely fine. Dropping it on the timeline, it only opened with the audio, no video track, no video source indicated. I tried adding a video track (V2) and dropped it on again, no joy. I have no idea why this is happening. In the older version I had gotten rid of the video track in my last project because I was just working with audio, but why is it not appearing in a new project? Any ideas?
TIA,Toby
Have you tried creating new user settings?

Pat Horridge: Have you tried creating new user settings?
Is that even possible with First? If so, how do I do it? FWIW, I have checked timeline settings and they are set to create the default one video and two audio tracks for new sequences. Each new sequence opens with TC on top and A1 and A2 below. I've been using Avid since NC 1 and I have never seen anything like this.
In your timeline fast menu, check under 'Show track' to make sure V1 is checked/on.

Hi and thanks for that. I didn't even think of that and did not realize that it ended up being a site setting. However I have a couple of other issues. First, my TC track is now between the video and audio tracks. I have never seen that and find it quite annoying. Is this something new? I can always turn it off, but why did it move there?
Second, I am unable to scroll in the timeline. I can scroll in the sequence window, but if I click into the timeline the blue line just jumps back to the start and will not move. I'm sure this is some hidden setting that I am unaware of, but I've never seen it before. Can you help me with that? And finally...I cannot get up audio waveforms. I have gone down to the hamburger and gone to audio data. Clip Gain and Volume display, but not Waveform. I have also tried turning on and off in the individual tracks, but I never get the Waveform, which is vital for me. I do have audio, and have checked back with older projects before the latest upgrade, and Waveforms have disappeared also in those. I can't imagine which setting I might have changed to make the Waveform display disappear. Any help on these issues highly appreciated.
You toggle waveforms using the waveform button for each track. You need to open the track panel to see those. You open the track panel by clicking the triangle button at the top of the track selectors.
As to scrolling issues: are you by any chance using user settings from a previous version? That will cause issues.
You can put the TC track wherever you prefer to have it and save that timeline view -- or even make it a site setting.
Hi, thanks for your reply. Here is my present situation. This project is audio only, so no video track. Waveforms are checked on in the timeline settings and activated in both A1 and A2 tracks. The blue line on the timeline has become a strange shade of turquiose. If I click on anywhere on the left side of the screen it jumps to the beginning of the sequence, and if I click past the middle it jumps to the end. I cannot grab it and scroll anywhere in the timeline. I have no idea how to change the position of TC1 track to place it below the audio tracks.I have a screenshot, but don't know how to upload it here. It is local on my computer, so no URL.I did recently upgrade to .5 from .3, and did not expect any issues because in the readme it appeared to be a minor revision, but here I am.I have not found any way to redo user settings in First. I always worked in my office with fully activated versions of Newscutter and MC, and in those creating user settings was no problem. It doesn't seem to be an option in First, or am I missing something?TIA
Hold ctrl (pc) or cmd (mac), and drag the TC drag to another position.
Thanks for that. Great to know. I never had occasion to need to do that before.
