What drives or Raid to buy?

I am a video artist, working since the early days of 1/2" open-reel tape through 1", D-2, Beta, etc. Still using HD but contemplating the move to 4K. I have an accumulation of 16 or more hard drives over many years, prefer Glyph. All earlier work has been digitized onto three large Glyph drives.  My archivist suggests we go to a Synology Raid system using Seagate 10TB Ironwolf drives. This preference is based on editing in Adobee Premier Pro, which I do not use.  Avid MC Ultimate here, always been on Avid MC. Can someone with expertise in this please advise me which way to go? It is urgent.

    Many thanks,

    marluc

I use synology NAS units. Nice pieces of kit. They do use their own internal drive format so if a unit fails its not so easy to transfer media or even mount the drives.

10TB drives will be slow so you will need to RAID them to increase speed and for UHD or 4K that would need a lot of drives.

If you go very large SSDs its expensive but faster but you are still limited to the network connection speed.

Personally I'd go for smaller SSD (maybe raided) local storage to work with and the large NAS for backup and archive.

I do hope all those old drives see a regualr spin up and check.

Thanks, Pat. I will forward this to my archivist.
