I was testing a couple of new UME MOV export settings and found that Quicktime on Windows would not open the files. See attached. I tried a couple of different exports and found none would play. I installed MC 21.3 and found these exports worked fine. I re-installed 21.5 to make sure I hadn't had a bad install but the problem came back. These exports do link back to Avid OK and they play in VLC.
My project is 1080p23 and the export is h.264 1.5Mb CBR with ACC stereo. I also was testing a PCM stereo audio only MOV and it showed the same error.
I realize QT is obsolete but I will still often check files with it because it displays timecode and captions. It is also far more complient with the QT spec than anything else I have found. I would not send these MC 21.5 files off to a client, not knowing what they may use to work with the file.
Has anyone else seen this?
Have a look at:
Free diagnostics app Treasured to preview the contents of the corrupt movie file, and then use the repair service.
- or -
Use web-based diagnostics at http://mp4repair.org to preview the movie.
Any chance you can send or upload somewhere a short sample file so I can test my end?

Thanks Pat. I emailed you a very short test export.
Hi there, we are running into the same issue, it just started today. Was running fine and craziness with the UME MOV exports, same error and everytinhg. I am on 2012.5 and thinking about rolling back. Have you solved the problem?
thanks
Irene
Avid have a bug logged that may relate to this but no news on resolution.
DonE:h.264 1.5Mb CBR
What happens if you up the datarate? 1.5 seems exceptionally low for 1080p.

It does look like this is a bug introduced in MC 2021.5. MC 2021.3 does not show the same problem. I'm thinking 2012.5 was a typo and you ment 2021.5.
Haha, yes that is correct. It was late when I typed that, but yes 2021.5. What is weird is that, it was working and then it suddenly stopped. We were done a whole day in edit changing graphic cards etc. What a waste of time but I am glad that I wasn't the only one that has experienced this. We will roll back to 2021.3.
We did spend 2 hours on the phone with support and they told us just to use Quicktime export instead, I don't think they were aware of this issue.
Thanks!

Thanks for your feedback Job ter Burg. I agree. That encode is scaled to 960x540 and has burned in timecode and 44.1 audio so as not to be too good quality, but still is OK on a desktop for screening.
This problem shows up in any encode I tried: UME MOV DNxHD 36 w/PCM audio, DNxHD 175x w/PCM audio, stereo PCM audio only etc. The same exports come out clean on MC 2021.3.
Hello,
the same behavior for me.
UME export 2021.3 played, 2021.5 play problem in QT. Export to H264 codec.
VLC plays without a problem.
According to MediaInfo, all the same, only added in the video of 2021.5 item: "Format_Settings_GOP: M = 4, N = 33".
I wonder if this can cause a problem when using video in audio post-production with Pro Tools?

Pat Horridge: Avid have a bug logged that may relate to this but no news on resolution.
Can we get a bug number and specifics on the bug. ie, only effect h.264 with ACC, only happens when the bit rate is below 2mbps, anything that can elaborate on what triggers the bug.
Thanks

Verified. MOV created using in MC2021.5 UME, codec h264, does not work in Pro Tools (version I don't know). The same videos from the previous version of MC work.
Hi,
MC 21.6 problem solved.
I re-tested the UME MOV h.264, PCM audio only and DNxHD exports that failed to play in Quicktime Player. They are working in MC 21.6.
