Hi everyone,
I'm currently running AVID Symphony 2018.10 on windows 10. I'm migrating to a Z840 Dual Zeon workstation with 64GB of RAM and a Nvidia Quadro RX 5000 graphics card. I have many older projects that I am still working on. Will there be any compatibilty problems working with previous AVID projects if I go to a more current version? What newer version would be recommended for stability on this new hardware?
Thanks!
Moving from 2018 you will have the new UI to get to grips with.
I've just ordered a similar spec Z840 machine.
I've run a the latest 2020 builds on my now aging Z400
So I'm expecting to run 2020.3 straight out the gate on the Z840.
I've found every release with 2020 to be worth the upgrade so I'd suggest straight in at 2020.3
As for old projects old titles may be an issue. In theory they come across but in practice I've had odd issues.
I'm make liw res guides for any important sequences first.

I have also opened up a project that was done around 2011 - not sure what version I was on. I had all footage as well ----could not beileve how easy it was to open up the project and relink, I was on some version 2020 not sure which one. The only thing was some effects, and titles had to be brought back in. I also had to re adjust audio levels.
Thanks, that sounds good. I can deal with the titles but I was more concerned about AMA linking and working with previously imported media.

Yes - Had AMA - but make sure you have QT installed. MC now uses UME - of which I still need to understand it a bit more - but have been using it without any problems. But linking to footage that used QT - I think you have to tell source browser to use QT - but not sure you might need to research this
My other footage was transcoded not imported.
Not sure about graphic open which was imported - dont remeber if I had to go back to the original
You should be fine
