Hi all,
I'm running out of options to try to troubleshoot a friend's MC setup so posting here for some possible knowledge of the group. She's got MC 2020.12 installed on a refurbished HP Z840, running the following config (which AFAIK is fully Avid Qualified):
Like i said in the subject line, Media Composer keeps crashing at least once an hour and it looks like the crashes are related to realtime fx (resizes, titles, cc fx, simple stuff). Since the Decklink Studio 2 is not the newest, I thought that might be the culprit but turning off the hardware had no effect on the issue at hand.
I really don't know where to look any more so all ideas about possible causes are greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Wouter
Stab in the dark but what happens on a completely new project witth different mediafiles and an entirely fresh user setting?
Also, did you try trashing MC State, just for sh*ts & giggles?
Hi Wouter,
I've got a case going for you (04117536) will ask support team to check the cause of this crashing.

Thanks Ralph, very much appreciated!

Thanks Job,
I have tried new user, did not trash MC state as this was a fresh MC install. New project and media is worth investigating I think, however the same project and media run perfectly fine on my Z800. So that doesn't appear to be the problem.
Will try new project tho ASAP.
Many years ago I experienced a similar intermittent crashing, also on an "over"-qualified system. It ended up being one of the RAM chips that was buggy, but only discovered after much trial and error. Just an idea...

Thanks Keith, I will look in to that. The system has been built with brand new components, including the RAM chips, but that's no guarantee for them all to be 100% ok. I will investigate this.
Did you get anywhere with this Wouter? I have a Z840 with a Decklink Studio 2 as well, and am particularly interested if you actually got this to work.
Remove the Decklink from the computer and uninstall the drivers to make sure it is not the cause.
I would check the RAM too. https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/how-to-test-ram

If you have loads of RAM try removing one pair and re-test then replace that in situ pair with the pulled ones and re-test.
