AMA relinking to overwrite a file

I know in hindsight I should have imported the video, but hey I ama'd it for speed which is biting me in the rear now.
I've got a simple edit that has loads of animated powerpoint slides in, where the powerpoint has been saved as a mp4 video.
As with any job, some of the the powerpoint content has changed, but no new slides. Mainly font/text changes.
No worries I thought. Re save as mp4 and avid should overwrite and be happy.
Trouble is avid keeps looking for the old powerpoint video file and not the new one.
The file is named exactly the same, stored in the same folder, the length is exactly the same to the frame. I've deleted the AMA management folder and xml file, which takes the clip offline in avid, but it will not relink to the newer "same" file. if I put the old file back into the folder avid instantly sees it.
Is there another database somewhere else that has something linking to the original file?

Re: AMA relinking to overwrite a file

If you link to the new file (in a new bin) and look at the metadata columns, is the timecode (in and out codes) the same between the new version and the original?

Re: AMA relinking to overwrite a file

Theres no timecode in the files, as its an mp4 video powerpoint has created.
Selecting ALL columns in the bin, everything is the eaxctly the same, except the creation date.

Re: AMA relinking to overwrite a file

There should still be a START and END code in the relevant columns.

These may start at 00:00:00:00 if there was no explicit timecode in the file.

    Nope nothing there.
Some other powerpoint videos have timecode, and some dont.

Re: AMA relinking to overwrite a file

    That's weird.

Whenever I import or link to any file, be it movie, still or audio, it will have something in these columns.

If the file has valid timecode it will be whatever that is. Otherwise the START value will be 00:00:00:00 and the END value will be whatever the duration is. So for a 30 second clip it will be 00:00:30:00.

Unless I'm missing something very obvious, Avid needs two things to successfully relink. These are..

    1) What the file is (it's source or tape name)

    2) Some sort of code or counter that can be used to determine what portion of the clip was used in the edit.

This is why (under the relink menu) the 'Relink By'  has two components you can select.

    1) Timecode - normally set to 'Start', although you can select other options like aux T/C tracks.

    2) Source Name - which could be Tape Name, Source File ID, Source FIle Name etc.

I don't see how it's possible to relink without these two bits of information.

Possibly linked to it. I've noticed the ones that dont have timecode, are video only.

Re: AMA relinking to overwrite a file

I once tried to do a similar thing- beating AMA at it's own game- but I always failed. I was trying to set up a Groupclip with duplicates of AMA 4K files so I could have additional FrameFlex crops in the Group, at my fingertips.  I could never trick AMA or get the result I wanted, even though it seemed logical.

    I threw in the towel.

Perhaps if you are able to add an AUX timecode to your original files; Relink them normally to a copy of your Sequence; then add the same AUX timecode to the replacements and then after removing the original files from your system as you've done, try Relinking the replacement MP4s by using the AUX timecode option.... or a Custom Column, see this:
