Almost certainly an nVdia driver issue, the latest is not necessarily the better as for MC. Could Windows automatic updates have messed things up? It usually does here!

Squatter1: The driver I have is from Aug 2020, and MC was working great up until Dec 2020. Nevertheless do you think it's still worth me trying older drivers on the card?

Well, you've got to try something. This sounds like a driver problem, and drivers are easy to change, so yes I think it's worth trying.

Thanks all, appreciate the replies as ever. I wouldn't have a clue what to do here on my own.
I checked the BIOS and the PCIE card is the boot option. Good thought though.
Could I ask anyone who can be bothered to rate my three options going forward - which should I try first!
My options
1 Try older versions of the NVIDIA drivers, even though this might give me problems with other apps/games etc
2 Try older versions of MC, although this won't give me access to most recent version features.
3 Replace my graphics card, even though this will cost me $100s that I would rather not spend. If I was to go down this route, which manufacturer would people recommend being most AVID-friendly
MC 2020.4
Specs; Windows 10 Home PC, Intel i5-4590 @ 3.30 GHz, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960, 64 bit opertating. 1TB SSD (Western Digital)
I'd do them in the order you listed them.
Trying different NVIDIA drivers isn't helping. Have tried about 7 different versions dating back 2 years. Same problem.
Now downloading MC from last year at a time it was working for me.
Assuming this works, a question - do I have to disable something on Avid Link to stop auto-updates?
Thanks
Gosh, it's pretty sould destroying all this.
Spent all day trying different NVIDIA drivers. No luck.
Rolled back MC by a year. No luck.
Tried a selection of different drivers with old version of MC. No luck.
Whole day gone, with it a whole day I could have been working and earning. Crushing.
What I really can't understand is - I was using MC 2020.4 - which was released in April 2020 - successfully between April and November 2020.
Then this month I fire up Avid for the first time since migrating to a new SSD and have these issues.
I try NVIDIA drivers from earlier last year - a time when MC was certatiny working for me - and still the same issue.
Suggests to me something else is going on other than driver issue?
But where do I turn from here?
Is this old footage you are using? or is this new footage?
If its old footage, I would try to AMA / Transcode a piece of new footage. maybe onto a different drive than what your other footage is on.
The HW and I/O mentions from before relate to whether you have a card or a outboard device that sends your video signal in and our of the Avid - to a monitor and mixer for instance. If you do, it might be worth disconnecting that and trying to play the footage.
Do you have music or a VO that youc can try - figure out if Audio plays without Video.
Can you create and play Tone Media from the Audio tool?
What version of Windows 10 is your PC on - the newest version (I believe its called Windows 10 v.2004) has been causing problems with MC.
Maybe the ,db files in your media drives got corrupt. You can trash those and restart MC and see if that helps.
At this point (assuming your support contract is current) I'd create a case on the MyAvid support portal and someone will get to you asap.
Are you using one or two monitors? Just for kicks, if using two, disconnect one, restart the pc and open MC.
Using MC 20.10. Win 20H2 Avid FX6.4, Vegas Pro 18/ DVD Architect 6pro, DVDit6.4proHD, CCE Basic, TmpGe Express4, TmpGe Authoring Works 4, DVDLab-Studio. Sony EX-1R, Canon XH-A1, GL2, GL1, Canon EOS 60D
Hi Squatter1,
I started a support case 04098530 for you let's see what's our tech support recommendation.
RalphC
Hello all
I just want to say thanks to everyone who's contributed to this thread thus far - I'm trying all suggestions and waiting for advice from tech support. God knows there's enough crap going on in this world at the moment, and everyone is feeling pressurised and isolated, so even these small everyday gestures of trying to help out someone you've never met really are symbolically meaningful and appreciated.
It's good to remind yourself now and again that not all of the internet is poisonous!
Much appreciated
And thank you RalphC for starting a support case

Thanks for the idea - yes two monitors, gave this a try but no luck
Appreciate it

Thanks for the suggestions:
tried importing new footage, no luck
I'm not using I/O device
Tried playing audio, and creating tone - no luck (I can creat the tone media but won't play)
My Windows is 10 v 1909, which is a couple of versions back (from 2019) - do you think I should upgrade?
Thanks again
Well, if you are reinstalling MC, probably better to get Windows current first. Just my opinion.
This sounds like an overlay problem. In your NVidia display preference settings, reverting to default may help.
In the old Liquid days, this used to happen with memory allocation. You did not change Windows ram allocation?
Hallelujah!
I'm back in business! Somehow, while tinkering with different video/audio driver versions MC began working again. To be honest I'm not even sure what was precisely the change I made that got things going. But I'm not complaining.
Can I say a big thank you again to everyone who contributed to this thread in attempting to help. Really appreciated.
