Is there a way to automatically apply custom project settings to a new project ?

    Hello all,

I'm sorry if this has been posted before, I  can't seem to find old posts or avid force topic that cover this question.

I'm trying to see if there's a way to automatically apply custom project settings to a newly created project. Like if I want some specific starting TC, or to have some external drive set by default for ingest, transcode, etc... Could my custom setting be set as default by some mean, or do I have to set up those options each time I create a new project ?

    Thank you for your help.

    Regards,

    Benoît.

    Hi,

What I do is create a template project with all the settings I want set up how I want them. When I want to create a new project with the template settings, in Windows Explorer I make a copy of the template project's folder in Avid Projects, then rename the copied folder to the new project's name. I also rename 'template project.avp' and 'template project settings.xml' so they have the same name as the new project (i.e. 'new project.avp' and 'new project settings.xml').

Then when you start Media Composer your new project will appear in the project list with all the settings you created in the template project.

    I hope that helps.

Set all your preferred project settings then save those to site settings - each new project will open with those as default. e.g. in general settings you can set the default timeline timecode and in Media Creation the drives you want to use.

    Hi Benoit,

there is even a small program that does the same job. As comoscato discribed I created a template project and then I start the program "templater" to create a new project. It is more than seven years old but does still a very good job:

    Give it a try.

    Best regards
