McAfee is probably overly cautious but during realtime scanning (i.e. scans a file when it is accessed) when I tried to first open MC 2020.10 (update from 2020.8) McAfee reported"C:\Program Files\Avid\Avid Media Composer\AvidOPFrameGeneratorApp.exe" as a virus and quarantined it. Attempting to continue opening MC and loading an existing project failed because the file had been moved to quarantine.
I can add this file to the McAfee exclusion list upon which MC 2020.10 starts and appears to operate just fine. But I would feel more comfortable if someone from Avid could have the developers review the file in question from the MC 2020.10 update package to ENSURE that this is a case of McAfee being "over-protective".
Thanks for any reassurance anyone can offer.

I'm running 2020.10 on a PC and just use the built in defender and malwarebytes and neither of those have warned of anything amiss
But generally I advise scanning new installations first time and then excluding the whole of that applications folder. Ther is no point scanning it each time use launch it and its just additional slowdown processes.

I've just gone to install it on our edit laptop, and HP sure sense pulls it up too. Although it lets me restore it and add to a safe list
I use Symantec / Broadcom End Point Secutity as my antivirus software and so far it is not currently flagging this file as a virus.
Any chance you can wetransfer the suspect file to me. I can compare it to my version?

Just posted about this....
Team Avid is presently investigating reports of a small number of anti-virus programs issuing warnings after updating to Media Composer 2020.10.
At this time, our review is indicating this is a false positive, but we will continue to investigate. We will update our user community on this issue within 24 hours of this post, if not sooner, as we learn more and can share helpful information.
Raff and I will keep the community updated and I will make those posts to the main notification on MC Mac and PC forums and MC First.
Thanks for your patience and our posts crossed otherwise I would have said " search is your friend".

Hello together,
G-data changed the Virus Scanner becaus it isn´t a Virus. With the actual Virus Database the installation works fine.

I have/had the same problem except everytime I started my computer Avid wanted to load 2020.10 version which, when opening, would get as far as the 'project' window and then add 'fatal error' followed by Mcafee listing the problem.
I found a solution for my PC. Open up the McAfee security software and click PC Security, click Real-Time Scanning, then click Excluding Files, followed with click Add File.
The problem file was AvidOPFrameGeneratorApp.exe. Navigate to this file undre - C:\Program Files\Avid\Avid Media Composeer and scroll down to AvidOPFrameGeneratorApp.exe and click to add.
Exit McAfee and start Media Composer. In my case that solved the issue.
My advise would be not to scan applications everytime they are loaded. There are lots of files that are loaded as an app launches and scanning each one everytime just slows your application launch time.
Most AV software will scan an installer file. It will then scan each file as its installed. I then exclude that installation directory from realtime scanning and if I want to be extra sure I manually scan the application folder.
Until I next update Media Compsoer none of the files will be changed so there is just no point allowing the AV software to scan all those files time and time again.
I use Bitdefender and get the same hit on the file mentioned earlier.
Did you read my post......
Update as of 11/3/2020
Based on Team Avid’s investigation, we are confident that anti-virus program warnings resulting from Media Composer and Media Composer | First v2020.10 updates were in fact false positives, and it is safe to download and install this version of our software.
Our testing has shown that most anti-virus programs have been updating themselves and now correctly flag Media Composer 2020.10 updates as safe.

Hope this is helpful. Two screen prints from Bitdefender. On IDs the suspect file and the other the virus connection.
AV packages look for code in applications and other files that matches known code related to viruses malware etc.
That particular trojan variant collects information about the host machine and I suspect the Avid exe file is also collecting data and the code is similar enough to trigger the alert.
The advice for Avid is this is a false positive and the file has been checked to be safe (its only a few AV products that are flagging it)
You can exclude that file from your AV scans.
