Advanced (Polyphase) image interpolation mode bug still present..

This problem is a long time with us. Still unsolved...

    1080i50 project and UHD clips.

FrameFlex gives strange results that depend on the selected image interpolation mode.
ADVANCED gives a worse result than the STANDARD!

Avid please do something with it...

Check and see if you have GPU render enabled under the Render Settings preference.  Try it with that disabled.

It works! Smile But it's strange that Radeon Pro Vega II in my new Mac Pro can't be fully utilised in MC...
    Thx once again

My theory is that Advanced Polyphase was implimented before ANY gpu support and is an entirely software based approach.  Trying to dump certain tasks (scaling in this case) to the GPU is probably causing something in the GPU to conflict with the Software.

But I am no programmer.  Just have been watching the software for a LONG time.

My theory is that Avid programmers don't like Mac and Radeon gfx cards... only NVIDIA!

FrameFlex with Advanced (Polyphase) image interpolation and ENABLED GPU effect works great with my Windows setup with the ancient GTX970 gfx card... I'm an ancient MC user too... Geeked

This burned me last week, too!

I didn't want to run w/o GPU for downscaling 4k to HD, and the ONLY way to make it work w/o glitches was to switch the renderer to Standard (BiLinear).

Yes, if I turn off GPU renderer it's also fine.

Can we get an AVID response on this?? I'm sure Polyphase is better than Bilinear, but is it worth running w/o GPU render?

    TIA,

    Jason

This could be a complicated issue.  The question is, if you are using a GPU for scaling, does it have an equivilant to Polyphase (whatever that means (don't get me started on marketing BS terms)?  Or is it just using what ever closest filter type is present on the GPU instruction set?  We do not know.

I think this just points out the myriad issues that integrating GPUs into an established software based image processing system presents.  And we are stuck with the results.

Personally I am running with GPU off for now (assuming I do not forget this when setting up a system).
