Hi all, I am really after a simple color control panel I can use for quick colour work in Avid instead of steping out to Davinci. I have fould the tangent Ripple but it looks like Avid is not supporting it. What else is there, surly Avid would be able to set up compatibility with Tangent Ripple so we can use Avid as a one stop shop? Anyone know what is happening here and if Avid is looking into it?
I was told that MC's color correction mode doesn't play nicely with outboard controllers. Even the Avid Artist Color didn't really work well and granular. Whereas the same device works smoothly with Resolve etc.
I love Avid but that is just such a mess, you would think they would focus on fixing this?
I agree - what's up with that, Avid?

Sadly yes only the Avid artist panel is supported and as mentioned its not an ideal fit for MC. It tends to lag and be unresponsive.
The grading side of MC/Symphony is now 20 years out of date and it just doesn't compete.
Round tripping is the only real solution.
We did gain shapes in the colour corrector a while ago but that's about it.

Maybe Avid will throw an updated form of color correction 2020 and a new panel (Avid C1) onto the market ?!IBC2020???That would be really great ...
Pat Horridge:It tends to lag and be unresponsive.
BarkinMadd:Job, do you mean Baselight as a plugin to MC?
100% you need to try baselight for avid.
it will do everything resolve can do within avid.
it works with the ripple or avid controller. I have both controllers in different suites and works fine.
One more vote for Baselight for Avid. The soon to be released version 5.3 even includes a multi-paste function that does the same job as Symphony's Merge Correction feature.
The Avid Artist Color panel does work very well with the plugin but is has reached End Of Life or will soon (the date is on the Avid site somewhere) so I'd go with something else if I was shopping ...

I've done some basic Baselight pluin on MC training. You can set a reel ID and use that to apply grades to associated clips.
Its a neat plugin for sure. But I don't think it supports any surfaces MC doesn't ?
Lifted off baselight website.Supports 3rd party colour wheels -
I have an artist color, never use it in MC.
I don't think I'd use it, even if it was working well. MC's CC seems to lend itself to mouse + KB for some reason.
But yes, baselight inside avid is the bomb, good use for an artist color. And snappy too.
Thanks everyone, is that the 1k pricetag for Baselight Avid? I am not really sure I want to lash out for that when I have Resolve here for free? I don't do enough colour to justify the spend, there is a free version of Baselight is that what I am looking at?
Thank you all for the responses though I didn't expect such a great discussion about this!
