    Moving software node dongle

Hey Gang – I’m upgrading my Z800 to W10 to upgrade to 2020.5 and have a few questions.

    (1) I have a software node “dongle” w/Symphony. When I deactivate my old MC license and reinstall on W10 will my software node, perpetual license transfer over? There is no physical dongle.

    (2) HP docs say to create a W10 ISO flash drive formatted as GPT for UEIF and then NTFS file format. I’m installing a new 1TB SSD, do I format that as GPT for UEIF / NTFS? (I used to have an IT guy that handled this, and I’m unfamiliar with GPT.) Or do I just format as NTFS?

    Many thanks in advance,

    Dan

    1. Yes.
    2. I forgot but fairly sure I went GPT on my z800.

Re 2.): my z800 appears to be running W10 on a 1TB SSD formatted in NTFS.

    Re: Moving software node dongle

I've looked all over to see if I can go with GPT and they hide that info. My BIOS is 3.57. I see 3.61 but the HP utility says I'm up to date with 3.57. One HP app that attempted to create a UEFI utility failed to the drive (exFat partition) and a USB.

So if you wouldn't mind can you verify your're using GPT..in disk manager right click on the grey area to the left of your partition and go to Properties and then Volumes is your partition style GUID- GPT or MBR? I just would feel better knowing someone is running GPT on a Z800. My current SSD drive was set to MBR W7, which my local repair shop would have done.

    My Samsung laptop is GPT.

    THANK YOU!

I just installed a new SSD in a Z400 and installed a fresh Win 10 a few weeks ago. I just stuck with MBR.

    Works fine.
