I think there's something wrong with the file 'Blackened'.

When I link to the files I see the same thing you see. I think the info for 'Denouement' is right, so I think the problem is with 'Blackened'.

And here are two different Audio Network files.

Re: Linking to Audio Network WAV fails

If you have MediaInfo, take a look at these two files. The UMID is the same. Avid uses this as a unique file id so it is very confused about these two files.

Try deleting the two links. Go to Settings > User > Link > Volume Mounting and uncheck Enable Linked Media Management. You have to close and reopen MC. Alt Drag just Blackened and you should see the correct timecode. Then if you link Denouement it will be wrong.

Re: Linking to Audio Network WAV fails

Thanks camoscato, yes looks like some work and some do not.  Thanks for the tip DonE, it does appear that the UMID is causing the confusion here.

Does anyone know of a way to strip the UMID from a file?

I shall resort to importing the Audio Network files as that works!

As an update, if you import to avid then export new wav files, these new wav files link properly.

    Dave:

If you get a moment would you mind testing with these two tracks?

I've downloaded and tested those on MC PC 2020.4 and I get a strange result.

    Both files import fine.

But when I try and AMA link I get asked for the fps ad chose 25 but only ANW2942_04_Blackened links.

No error but no sign of the ANW1501_06_Denouement linked clip

Tried in a fresh bin with just that clip and it comes in as ANW2942_04_Blackened

So I suspect MC is seeing something in the metadata that makes it think they are the same source file.

    But not sure what.

It's the UMID. They are the same in these two files.

With Linked Media Management off and neither of the files linked, Alt drag one of them and it should link. Delete it and Alt drag the other. It should also link. You can't have both linked at the same time. If you have nothing better to do or really need to be able to link these two files, you can make a copy of one (or not) and use a hex editor and change one byte of the UMID.

I would think this is a very rare case. Logic Pro X that made these files makes the UMID for it. They are 32 or 64 bytes long. What are the chances.....? Avid puts a UMID in their wav exports. Not sure what version this started with.

You may never see this happen again.
