    Quicktime Reference Replacement Workflow

Greetings.  Got 2020.4 loaded.  Quicktime Reference Export is no longer an option.  I have not found any Avid literature that offers a replacement solution.  I liked the very fast QT Ref export, then Encoding in Sorenson.  What is every's workflow now?

Only thing it will let me Output from within Avid is Fast Export Quicktime....

    Thanks for sharing.

    Re: Quicktime Reference Replacement Workflow

That's a shame I still used that route too but I suppose with gradual demise of 32bit Quicktime, it's inevitable. I think the method is to export to OPA1 now? RIP the old Titler too, it's been my friend for 20 years.

If you have a sequence of multiple audio and video tracks, do a video mixdown of all your video tracks and replace them with the mixdown, leaving only 1 track of video. Do the same for your audio. Now the sequence is 'flat'.

It depends on where you want to end up. What your final output needs to be.

Personally I was delighted to see direct, fast H.264 export under mov in the export dialogue.  This will save me a step in many of my projects.   Worth taking a moment to investigate the new options.

Greetings.  Got 2020.4 loaded.  Quicktime Reference Export is no longer an option.

If you really still want to use it, it is still available. "QuickTime Reference" is the second option from the top in Options... > Export As:.

Seems best to look for a new workflow as Avid has said that legacy QuickTime will be gone in a future release.

I did a quick test in 1080i29 and it worked with QT Player.

Does it? Good to know, I hadn't tried it to be honest, just assumed from the readme about promoting to Titler+.

I feel like the SAS export is part of legacy QuickTime and will also be gone in the future. Am I wrong about that?

I don't see anything like it in the new Options... > MOV export.

Please note that the new export options under MOV, like the Op1A MXF option, uses the new Unified Media Engine (UME), which is often even faster than Same As Source.

Michael Phillips did a bunch of tests a couple of years ago, and it showed that using the UME on a sequence with unrendered RT effects (like Color Correction) was faster than using Same As Source QT.

    Yes

this is an extremely helpful document that everyone should read PRIOR to moving workflows to mc2020.x

QT ref and QT SAS are dead. SAS has it's own issues, and the burden of managing multiple users creating huge amounts of mixdowns has always been problematic, imo. MXF op1a export directly from a sequence + external transcode for other deliverables is a much better solution.
